modding a car

I Thought the acs specials were oem, or in most cases the stick on stuff just wing purchased at car order time, so pretty much oem

wow, it's quite unbelievable how a simple question asking how "a" car could be lowered and modded more to MY liking by adding a simple, understated bodykit could have warranted snide remarks around my age, my social status, my income etc.

Frankly, if you don't have anything useful to post, and you can't help answer the question then feel free not to post. I didn't ask for your assessments of my status, nor did I ask for your opinions on whether I should mod a car in the first place. I asked only how to and whether that involved going to mechanics, bodyshops, or specialists.

the self-righteousness of some people here, and I won't name any names, is beyond belief.

Oh and by the way, I'm 29, I work for a consultancy firm and I earn more than enough to afford a car like the G37 and if I want to modify it, it's MY BLOODY BUSINESS.

I think ts more shock that someone would buy something that looks so boring brand new that they wanted to change it.

Also, your opening post was more akin to a 17 year old modding a £1k car ;)

Yes because many 17 year olds buy new sedans and ask about "understated" bodykits.

New car can mean 2 things:
- brand new
- new to you, but 2nd hand

not many people buy a car that they don't like the look of enough to change the look so much.

O and how many 17 year olds? About as many 29 year olds who buy a car and mod it significantly :p

You'd be suprised. It's exactly how you came across and exactly why you got the reception you did.

The best thing you can do is just buy something sporty for £40k in the first place. There are plenty of choices and most have options list including a range of suspension and bodykit options for you without you needing to take your £40k car to a bodyshop for them to nail some tat to it.

It sounds like you need something like a BMW 335i M Sport or an Audi A4 3.0 S-Line or perhaps an S4, not a Nissan saloon car, sorry, Infiniti G37. Then you'll get the sporting looks you want, and people wont think you are a confused 17 year old who has just won the lottery :p

The concept of spending FORTY THOUSAND POUNDS on a car you feel looks 'meh' is one that just further added to peoples confusion about the whole thing. Just seems a bit odd, really. You've got more than enough money to buy something you dont think looks meh.

When I added a bodykit to my Mondeo to make it look better I did so because I couldnt afford one that looked better in the first place!

What I find unbelievable is Fox being adamant that AC Schnitzer parts are not aftermarket.

In my opinion, if it has BMW part numbers, is ordered through a BMW dealership, and is detailed in catalouges printed by BMW, it isnt aftermarket. In exactly the same way that a set of Alpina classics is not aftermarket, either, given they are orderable buy and probably proudly on display right now in your local franchised main dealer. A set of BBS LM's, mind, are aftermarket.

It is aftermarket now - as the relationship has ended and the parts can now only be aquired outside of BMW. But this is a recent change.

you seem to e assuming he wants to modify to be "sportier" though, he could just want to modify it for the looks...

lol @ the thread..

dude asks for information on how its done.. people go into his pocket looking if he can afford it or not.. its his life.. his money let him waste it :) if i had that cash i would do similiar maybe not g37 but something similiar for sure.. i know what he's trying to get to..

but i bet it would be easier for you asking in different websites.. like stanceworks/stanceiseverything etc.. those people love modiffied cars and will tell you exactly how its done and whats available..

on ocuk motors forum u'll end up being suspended just because your perfectly normal thread got ruined by "members" who love to do this with EVERY thread on motors forum.. see for your self.. just go a few pages back.. i bet u'll find a thread similiar to this :)

ocuk motors don't even appreciate after market wheels.. just look into show off thread.. bang someone posts a volvo with the BADGES he likes.. 10mins later.. comes the little hater going all how they "look bad and are fake ferrari badges.. LOL"

I think its pretty clear he wants it to look more interesting and less bland - this is generally considered to be looking 'sportier'.

Not really, there are loads of modifying styles which are not intended to make the car look any sportier but involve lowering+wheels. The VIP look, the slammed look, etc etc.

I dont think he is a car modifier, though, he just wants to modify a car. There is a difference - if he was the former he wouldnt need to ask whether he needs to go to a bodyshop to have bodywork done or not.

He could be an aspiring car modifier?

In the UK.
And yes bla bla bla OcUK is English but that's irrelevant. Schnitzer are a third party tuning company and as such all their stuff is and always has been aftermarket.

Selling their products through BMW in the UK is a very good marketing ploy as people would think that they are an 'official' BMW tuner or something.

Nobody looked into his life, nobody cares if he can afford it, we all just said it was likely it was just a windup - as we get so many of those here.

Just look at his question. How would you answer it? It doesnt even look like a proper question, he's asking how he'd fit a bodykit, well duh, he'd go to a bodyshop and pay them to do it. What else are we supposed to say?

Nobody has ever been suspended for that. Are you trying to start a big fight by making up lies, thats incredibly hypocritical of you?

They ARE parody Ferrari badges, thats the point. If you post pictures of your car you invite peoples opinion, thats the point
