Model Railways

ISTR you can go one smaller than N gauge - I can remember a bloke exhibiting his layout in something not much bigger than a briefcase.
They get insanely small. T Gauge is the smallest. HO is the "standard" train set you can buy.

Most men of a certain type. I don’t think most men in general do.
We have an entire department that deals purely with where our assets cross railways.
The senior manager is an utter trainiac, who spends every possible moment trying to prove to Network Rail employees that he knows more about their trains than they do.
There is one woman in the team, who specifically wanted to join this department, and loves trains... but also loves anything involving engineering and vehicles.

The remaining 21 staff, men of all ages including the trainiac's own son, just wish the ground would open up and swallow them (or the trainiac) whole!! :D

My uncle has been into model trains as long as I can remember.

His loft is converted into a giant model railway, was up there on boxing day with him and its absolutely crazy. I'll find some photos of it later.
Its awesome to see, there's so many, theres thousands upon thousands of pounds of trains and track up there.

@koolpc @Epburpee

I couldnt find a way to host quick videos so just stuck it in a google share.
Only a couple photos and very limited in what you can see:

So the config is a giant loop around the entire of the loft.
Smaller tracks on the inside, larger on the outside.

What you dont see in the pictures and videos:
- The scale of it all
- The amount of trains and carriages held around the place - an estimate of around 300 would be conservative.
- A rolling road in another room holding a model train, god knows the class but size S for sure.
- You wont see the full environment he's built around it with views, mini towns and more. You'll hear some of the audio triggers in the video.

There is a lot more and ton's ive missed out. I will try to get better pictures and videos next time I see them (probably around June)

My boy liked Thomas The Tank Engine and I used to get him one of the Tomy electric trains most weeks. Up until he was about 5, when he grew out of it, he got track and points etc for presents. He ended up with the most ridiculous layout you've ever seen- 100m+ of tracks on multiple loops with bridges and all sorts. Those were very happy days.

That's all up the attic- I really should sell it...

It was for you not him!!!

@Blackvault - you building anything yet? I remember when you had a layout in your double garage that you had to crawl under and had all the electrically operated points (or were you aiming for that I can't remember). Need to get another one built!

I did indeed have one in the old workshop, sadly it didn't get much further than the laying of the track work and point motors. Thinking about it the place wasn't ideal as there was no insulation, but I enjoyed it as a child. Yes, I would like to build one now that I'm an adult.
