Mondeo 2.5T died on motorway

Sounds very similar to what american Impreza STi owners get with their engines. It's quite a popular thing to have your deck 'pinned' which inserts pins in between the liner and the deck of the engine in the same vein as the dreamscience mod above.

Never quite understood why boosted engines don't have at least a semi closed deck from the factory (like all the JDM and UK Impreza STi's) as surely its always just an issue waiting to happen?

If you are thinking of a replacement engine whats to say the same thing won't happen again? even if it costs a little bit more i'd be tempted to get yours rebuilt then you know it'll be good for ages then and will always be a good selling point in the future too.

New engine is the most prudent choice either Ford approved recon or second hand. Otherwise you will be spending the fitting cost out just to find out what is wrong with yours before any repairs. Plus and hidden damage that might appear a few thousand miles on.

Got my fingers burnt badly about 10 years ago. A new engine would have saved me about 50% in the long term.

These engines are not cheap though. £6000 was what I read when I had my Focus ST.

Best bet would be to ask on the owner's club forums. There might be someone who can fix it there.

Dreamscience again will do a rebuild for £2750, includes new liners, which doesnt seem too bad to me.

You might be able to use RS parts, which are better reinforced (the RS doesn't suffer from this issue). It's the same engine so they should fit.

I'd speak to dreamscience and see what they recommend.

Chances are it is just the odd one or two problems that have been reported on the ST forums and they've done 100's of them with no problems at all

I just called them and they said they don't really work on the 2.5T anymore

Yeah, I was pretty surprised given the focus of their website...
Apparently they "still have a couple of bits lying around". The main guy was in the workshop so they asked me to call back, but not sure if it's worth it.

I'll give bdperformance a go.
