Right, my car died again today and to be honest i've had enough of it! The electrics are all over the show and are acting possessed! And nobody seems to know whats wrong with it/how to fix it.

Does anyone have a Mondeo Ghia X, ST24 or ST200?

What are the main differance's between them all?

I know they are powered by a V6 (Yummy) but apart from that i'm not too up to date on them.

I'm looking at the 1999/2000 models and seem to be good on price and insurance :) .

cheers,

Ben

I have a V6 Ghia X It has full leather interior, heated front seats, 8 way electrically ajustable drivers seat, air con, traction control, cruise control, heated front and rear screen auxcillarly warning system( warns if doors are open brake lights not working etc) and a trip computer. The ST24 has half leather sports seats, driver seat is electrically height ajustable, aircon heated front and rear screen sports suspenion 15mm lower and stiffer a lot have the RSAP kit fitted as standard. Engine is the same in the ST24 and Ghia X 167 bhp 2.5 24v v6. The ST200 has most of the Ghia X bits except cruise control and the seats are leather recaros and the engine has 195bhp suspenion setup is even stiffer and lower then ST24. :)

on the 99/00 models they changed aircon for climate control and the Ghia X lost the AWS system. :)

-Ghia X is the family version V6

-ST24 is the first of the V6 24v engines (afaik?) and is sportyfied

-ST200 is a beast :D It has more power than the other 2 and as previously stated, most of the luxuries.

Main problem here is, an ST24 will set you back £2k, an ST200 will be triple that - quite a big jump.

Ghia X has all the goodies you'll need - heated electric leather seats, cruise control, air conditioning (Climate Control on Jul 99> models), electric sunroof, ABS, TCS, electric windows, remote locking, 6 CD changer, map reading lights, onboard computer, etc.

ST24 does not have the leather, full electric adjustment, heated seats on models before Jul 99, you get either a Sunroof OR AC unless it both were added as an optiona at new, and you don't get a trip computer or cruise control. You DO, however, get half leather Sports seats and on all hatchbacks and most Estates you get full RSAP bodystyling and 4 spoke alloys as standard. Suspension is also 15mm lower.

Performance between ST24 and Ghia X is identical.

ST200 is a different beast. Interior wise provided you get a post Jul 99 model, you get full leather Recaros otherwise you get half leather. You also get everything you get on a Ghia X bar the heated seats and cruise control. You get 17 inch alloys, RSAP bodystyling, twin exhuasts and Imperial Blue paintwork.

Now for the interesting bit. The suspension is reworked on the ST200 - as well as being lower, you also have uprated bits as well. Also, 200bhp.

Ghia X is cheaper, ST24 is more expensive becuase it looks good as standard and a decent ST200 is still £4-6k as they are quite rare.

Also available is a Ghia X with RSAP - this was a factory option, is very rare, and adds the 4 spoke alloys and bodykit to the Ghia X.

wow!

Excellent info there :)

Was exactly what I was after.

How easy are they to maintain? Pricey or what? I'm leaning more towards the ST200 :) .

Thanks for the info btw :D

haha awsome!

I'm not too good with petrol stations, Last week i was stuck at one for an hour after i entered my card number in wrong 3 times and locked my card, i had no phone on me or other means of paying lol :D

Hopefuly tomorrow I can go hunting for some ST200's :)

Thanks again!

I owned one of the super-rare ST200 saloons, only 300 made, mine was badged 299!
Ltd saloon also has blue/black heated leather Recaros, Blue marble effect on the door handles, dash, centre console and gearknob. Also has blue topped steering wheel.
Lovely car, smooth and plenty of go, definately the most comfrtable car I've owned and with 200bhp on tap, a great cruiser.
But St24's can be had for half the price.....

Maintenance is a pig on the ST24 (or the other v6's for that matter) if you are inexperienced, the spark plugs are biatch to change, the atlernator is nigh on impossible with out a ramp, i found everything was bloody siezed on mine.Clutch change costs a fortune, and the Headgaskets can be a bit rover like (down to the waterpump being made of cheese, not good cheese either, its the cheap Kraft crap :p)

Fairly reliable motor tho, what does go wrong is cheap and easy to fix, wishbones and drop links are the favorite things to go.

Personally i found the Ghia a bit too soft as stock, and the seats were 8 way adjustable, but i found them not grippy enough, rest of the interior is exactly the same.

Personally i think the st200 isnt worth 6k, its nice but not 6k nice, esentially its still a mondeo st-24, would you really pay another 4k for a 30 bhp increase, theres other cars out there for that kind of money now.

mondeo ghia X > all mondeos

ive had st24, zetec, ghia, Ghia X

ghia X is the better car than all of them

I've just picked up a W reg ghia x v6, and have been looking into them. Get it lowered on decent springs and shocks, decent wheels and RSAP, then exhaust throttle bodies cat and manifolds and you're looking at as quick as an st200, better suspension, smoother delivery and more toys for say half the price? I'm just going off what I've read in a few different reviews but the cam changes etc done to get the extra power on standard cats have made the st200 not as smooth? Don't shoot me if I'm wrong though.

Here's mine at the moment, needs lowering and the RSAP body kit yet, the wheels are from an st200, only picked it up on Thursday.

The st200 is overpriced for what it is, and in my opinion the mk2's look horribly outdated now. So I'd be looking for the mk3 2.5l ghia x if you can stretch to around the 4.5-5k mark, but the older mk2's can be had for far lower.

I dont think they do when fitted with RSAP kit and i dont think the st200 is over priced the suspension is completely different more powerful engine almost all the toys the Ghia X has and recaro seats which are very nice to sit in :)

tom you finally got it then :)

RSAP'd up Mk2 Mondeos still look good even today. ST200 is ridiculously expensive but you'll not lose much on it so it's swings and roundabouts.

Very nice Tom :) .

I think i'm gonna look out for an ST24 with the RSAP kit :) . The ST200 is little bit nasty on the insurance for me :o :D . But can manage the ST24 for the 5 months thats left on my policy.

The main reason I am getting a new car is because my focus keeps dying, electrical problems and no one knows whats wrong with it lol. So im after a nice mondeo, my father has the 2l Ghia which is quite a pleasent drive, apart from the belt is on too tight and makes a slight squeaking noise all the time, but you say the V6's have chains? Should be awsome!

Hopefully I'll notice the differance going from my 1.4 focus zetec :D

Thanks again for the info chaps!
