Money to spend ...so many options..

I going to suggest something different, since Fallout 4 is CPU bound & memory & OC'ing the memory has a positive effect on framerates. Sell your old processor mobo and memory on the members market. To recoup some of the cost and get this....

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £579.46
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Use your old cards for the time being until cards on a new process node land.....

Surely a Pascal card won't be £500 on launch? I would imagine even the entry level cards would be significantly higher than that for the first 6-12 months. The Titan Z is still crazy money so I don't see how something that is X amount of times more powerful is going to be cheaper without tanking their entire line of cards straight away.

I would advise a FuryX, 980ti and you won't have to worry for a very long time or a 970/390x and you won't have to worry for a slightly shorter time.

EDIT: Changed to 390x :p

I'm in the same situation at the moment, got a 4k screen but can game at 1440, but not sure what to go for, the 980ti sounds like the best solution but not sure if the furyx could be a better long term solution possibly with vulkan/dx12. I will also be getting an oculus when it's released. I'm sure the black Friday deals will tempt me into buying something though.

Hi,I recently posted about fallout 4 and my trusty 7950s. Basically I was told they should run the game ok. At the time that good to hear but I've just been give a gift of £500 by my in laws to as they said treat yourself.
Right I was looking at a new graphics card so basically I need you lot out there who know a lot more than me to basically tell me what's the best for me.
Right I only play my games on a 144hz 27" 1080pAsus monitor.
Possibly would go up to 1440 in the future but not now .
So I really need something that will play games at a good detail level and would last need hopefully a couple of years. I don't see myself going crossfire or sli again so it would be a single card only option. I'm open to both nvidia or Amd . If possible would be nice to come in under budget for a new ssd as well. The reason I don't want to choose myself is I would probably spend all the cashon something that far exceeds what I actually need. Many thanks and I can't wait to blow the cash.....lol

Hold on a sec. You tried the latest 15.11.1 catalyst drivers yes? 2 7950s (you used plural so I assume you have CF )should be able to cut through 1080p on Fallout 4.
Overclock them also, easy to do so.

Now next step. I would be looking first for a monitor with the best gsync/freesync that money can buy, before switch cards.

A freesync one you can benefit now with the 7950s and later upgrade to another AMD card. A Gsync you will have to buy later on an Nvidia card.

This technology works wonder, and you only have to achieve the minimum FPS for the tech to work. No need to chase all the time the "top of the range" graphic card, let alone change every gen to keep fps up.

Many games that for some reason do not support Crossfire, are chewed by a single 290X core of my 295X2, and it spits them out out at max setting. Yes fps hovers on some of them at 45-50, but the screen is smooth and as long as stays above 40fps, I do not see the difference. (I use XL2730Z monitor)

Just another thought

Unfortunately 7950/7970/280(x) do not support freesync so may not be that beneficial until a later upgrade (same for gsync)

To the OP, since you have 7950s in crossfire, then I think your option are limited to the 980ti or fury for a proper upgrade, that or wait for the new gpu's to be release or spend the money on other components (Or even treat Mrs)

Fury (none X) and unlock it, high chance it will partially unlock with a chance of a full unlock to a Fury X. Even if you don't do any unlocking its still a good card.

Huh my fault, thought they were supported all GCN cards as initial statement last year. Indeed only GCN 1.1 or later do.

Without knowing what the op's current spec is. I wouldnt reccomend a complete system upgrade just yet. Also, an X99 setup will run dual channel ram. But it's better to make use of quad channel.

What are the specs of your current PC? People will be able to advise you better if you give those details.

Wow thanks for all the reply guys ...I would like to reply to all your comments but it would take forever so I'm gonna sum it up briefly if I can.

Looks like the 980ti is the main choice of many of you which if I'm honest thought it might be.
As for you guys who suggested crossfire or sli I must admit I've not noticed any issues with my trusty 7950s but I always said when I upgraded again I would go back to one card. From what I read you appear to have a few less issues with a single card and the that's what I like I'm not much of a tinkerer but thanks for the idea.
As for waiting like I said if I wait too long I know the mrs will try to convince me that the money would be better spent else were and that's not gonna happen.
The idea of something like the fury did appeal to me plus I could get another ssd and still be in budget but you guys have to realise I have to get the best I can get with the money I've got. I will only get 1 shot at this so I've got to be sure I make the right choice.Would the fury out last the gtx980ti from what I've read I'm not sure.
So it looks like a 980ti but I'm only just within the price range. Now does brand make a lot of difference or is it just persona choice. .The 2 cheapest 980s if I'm ignorant I've not heard much of compared to the likes of msi, gigabyte,Evga
I've got to be careful not to fall in to the trap of for just another few quid you could get this or that...If I ask for any more money I think the Mrs would knife me.
Anyway a bit long winded but that's were I am now ...Thanks everybody. ...unless you know of something different? ??....lol

+1 for Fury Pro (Sapphire Tri-X) and have £70 left for maybe a 250GB SSD or thereabouts.

Alternatively wait for both AMD and Nvidia to bring out their new line ups in 2016 but risk your Mrs buying another washing machine etc....in the meantime.

:D

The 980ti is the fastest no doubt about it. The question is do you need it when cheaper alternatives can max out 1440p anyway. Thats basically the reason I didn't get a 980ti and I don't regret it. My Fury pro is flying :)
