Monitor makes a loud pop? PSU fault?

Good morning all

I picked up a AOC u3477pqu over the weekend. Very nice panel and all that, but after about 3 or 4 minutes the monitor makes a loud pop. Sometimes the panels flicks off and on but not every time.

Any idea's what would cause this? I will most likely box it up and return it but if it is something simple or normal then I will keep it as it has zero back light bleed, it is picture perfect.

I'm on my third U3477PQU in less than half a year, with this one getting exchanged tomorrow. Exactly the same issue. OCUK replaced the first one, AOC replaced the second, AOC will be replacing the third. Shame really as the panel quality it lovely but the rest of the monitor seems to be made up of junk.

It's also strangely reassuring that I'm not the only one to experience this. It's a shame to note that the third monitor I received was definitely not new. It arrived in a battered box, with surface marks around the sides and started misbehaving within hours of first use.

Is there an AOC rep on this forum?

To follow up on this, I am now on my 4th monitor through RMAs and the last replacement has started making the same "popping" and screen-wobbling as the last three.

Would be interesting to hear if any other members have these monitors and are experiencing similar issues?
 
This sounds like possible sporadic loss of signal sync, can be caused by cable, videocard, monitor and/or external RF interference.

Try testing by changing to different input (e.g. change to HDMI if you have used DisplayPort and vice versa).

Unfortunately I've tried different graphics cards, DP cables, I've even changed motherboard & CPU since receiving the first monitor. A friend has the same model and is experiencing the same issues.

If I move to HDMI from DP it'll go down to 30hz instead of 60.
 
Yes, it would be, and this way you can show to supplier that this is certainly specific fault.
From my experience, Acer/AUO stability of DP controllers is certainly not the best and I have experienced it myself:
- on Z35 I had very common loss of sync when using G-sync on second DP output - so severe that it caused monitor to reboot sometimes. For whatever weird reason this didn't happen when I switched to first DP output.
- XB321HK sporadically (~once in several hours) loses sync which causes very rapid "black/garbage" flash on half of the screen - half because this panel uses separate controllers for each half and only one loses sync. Plenty of users on amazon have pointed out this issue
This seem to be made more serious when DP bandwidth being pushed to max (either by high refresh rate or high resolution). Maybe its the teething problem of first-gen tech...

Well AOC have never disputed the issue and have happily replaced the second & third monitor on site without dispute. It has felt however like the replacement monitors have been refurb or at least second hand and not new.

The first replacement monitor was replaced by OCUK and was new.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Your customer service has been responsive, but I'm afraid to say the products delivered have been less stellar. I am currently awaiting confirmation from your support team that a new monitor will be delivered.
 
I've noticed my BenQ's casing seems to expand/warp/? in the heat and make cracking/knocking sounds sporadically. At least I think it's the monitor.
 
Put the speaker volume to zero in the OSD (or disable or mute the speakers depending on which settings you have). AOC has some built in power saving feature thing that has been doing undesirable things like that in several models since around 2014 or so.

At a guess when the power saving timeout kicks in it results in a discharge of a capacitor somewhere that spikes the low voltage electronics.

Which is completely inexcusable. If it's something that was found to be an issue in 2014 then one would've expected this issue to have been resolved by now.

Problem is I dunno how widespread it is - other than it isn't totally uncommon and is mentioned by several users in two of the AOC monitor threads here (one being the AOC U2868PQU which I own) and on other forums.

I tried reporting it to AOC ages ago but they didn't seem to understand I was trying to report a fault rather than asking for support with my monitor - as I don't use the speakers on mine I'm quite happy to mute them which solves the problem for me and so far for everyone else that has mentioned the issue.
 
On monitor #7 now (I believe it's #7). This one arrived with a string of dead pixels (about 3-4mm long) on the left side of the monitor. AOC are disputing replacing it & OCUK will not provide a full refund because it's out of the 30 day period.

As I'm creeping up the original purchase date it seems quite likely that I'll soon be left with a malfunctioning panel with dead pixels that neither the manufacturer will replace nor OCUK will refund.

Guess I'm likely to just have to add this to experience.

If you are outside the 30-day right to reject, you have to give the retailer one opportunity to repair or replace any goods or digital content which are of unsatisfactory quality, unfit for purpose or not as described.

You can choose whether you want the goods to be repaired or replaced.

But the retailer can refuse if they can show that your choice is disproportionately expensive compared to the alternative.

If the attempt at a repair or replacement is unsuccessful, you can then claim a refund or a price reduction if you wish to keep the product.
