i have a 4870 ati gfx card, and a philips 230c monitor, i run windows 7 x64

i've just managed to get my monitor to take up the whole screen using overscan on max in the CCC. Any idea why its necessary to overscan? and will it harm any components?

is there anyway to do it without overscanning? i tried updating 4870 drivers but no success and theres no monitor drivers.

Thanks!

im running dvi, but it has a hdmi adapter on it, so hdmi i guess.

not sure what native is, but im running it 1080 and its a 1080p monitor?

Native should be 1080p for this monitor which is 1920x1080. I assume under Screen Resolution you have it set to 1920x1080?

Doesn't the screen have a DVI output? If so try a DVI to DVI cable.

yea it does, but i thought dvi doesnt carry sound? i used hdmi from my old monitor just didnt bother changing it. is dvi full hd aswell? i assumed it is.

and yes have it set on 1080

Try looking under your TV menu for the picture option. Is there a setting called 'Just scan' or similar (possibly under aspect ratio)? Try that. I had the same problem until someone pointed that out.

Do as fozzybear suggested, check the menu system for something that might cause this issue, aspect ratio etc.

DVI generally doesn't carry sound, but it would rule HDMI out as the problem.

I think if you google you are not the only person having this problem so it would appear the monitor is the cause.

Sometimes if you run HDMI from the card without a DVI converter at the card end, it acts like its plugged into a TV so you have to tell it that your screen can carry 1080p. I know in ATI CCC theres an option for custom HDTV modes. As mentioned though if you run it over DVI then you will rule out the issue.

thank you very much guys! i connected the dvi up, which is fine now cause i got surround sound for xmas. It's utilising the whole screen now.

Thanks for your help!
