Hi all.

Just built my girl friend today a new gaming pc based around the 560 ti graphics card. She has a LED LG monitor which can display 1980x1080 resolution.

For some reason when im in games the only resolution that she can display is her native one which is 1240x768 something like that. Which confuses me.

The wire connecting from the monitor is a vga which is then connected to a dvi adapter then straight into the graphics card.

Is they a solution to improving her resolutions in game please as they look really crap at the moment

Kind regards

Does it display the desktop at 1920x1080?

When you're selecting the resolution in games have you scrolled down the list of options to see if 1920x1080 is there?

Hi there. i have to add 1980 x 1080 to the resolution list manually and when i go into games 1980 x1080 does not display as a compatible resolution

Monitors do not need drivers. If it comes with a disk then it's usually the colour matching profile. They are plug and play, and pass the resolution and refresh rates supported back to the graphics card down the cable.

im using an lg 1920x1080 monitor,on some games it doesnt display full 1920x1080,there will be a black border around the edges, esp in crysis, to get around this you have to create a custom profile of 1920x1076 then the borders disapear, other games though the setting 1920x1080 shows up in the game menu

are you setting the screen res in nvidia control panel? not the monitors settings as it might not be applied to your games

Obviously it isn't doing that otherwise he wouldn't be having to add 1920x1080 manually.

The monitor driver lets the OS know what resolutions and refresh rates the monitor supports.

Unfortunately there's no driver listed on LG.

There's no such thing as a monitor device driver. I'd be looking at the graphics drivers instead, or checking the DVI-VGA adaptor.

doesnt the os read the monitors edid? should list what resolutions it supports, mine came with a driver/software cd but never used it,it works fine without

Right click on the desktop and select screen resolution.

What resolution is the desktop running at?

Click on advanced settings and the monitor tab, what refresh rate does it show?

Not in the same way that device drivers are required by other hardware.

Perhaps it's a misnomer but that's what the monitor manufacturer's call them.

What they do do is let the OS know what resolutions and refresh rates the monitor supports, something that may not be happening in this case with just plug and play.

Okay, disregarding HOW you could, I'd like to know WHY you would want to use 1920x1080 on a 22" screen, when the native is 1240x768 ? The native resolution will always be crisper than a scaled resolution, AND will run smoother. You can use the saved horsepower for AA, for example.

Furthermore, if possible, it's highly recommended to use digital signal path with LCDs, because they are by design digital. The VGA can also cause blurriness, and that might be the reason the resolution "looks really crap". Considering it's a LED monitor, there's a very high probability it's modern enough to have digital DVI input, as well.

OK, scratch the earlier paragraphs, I checked the model manually: its native is in fact 1920x1080, not 1280x768, you should edit your first post. And it indeed also has DVI-D input, you should just get a digital DVI-DVI cable. Might solve all your problems with just this one change.

The model I can find on LG's site (the E2240S) only has a D-Sub (VGA) input.

Aah, then this needs some extra info from the original poster, because the one I found through quick altavista search with "lg e2240", the E2240T, is DVI-D and D-Sub.

Edit: though the native is in both cases 1920x1080
Edit2: actually, the original poster could just state whether there's a DVI plug in the back of the monitor

I'm sure the OP will clarify.

Interestingly the E2240T only seems to appear on LG's Indian website though it does seem to have been available in the UK.

Actually, it's also at least on the Finnish site. US site has V model, which also comes with DVI-D. At quick glance it would seem like the S model is mostly UK centered. Though because this is a UK site (and a good chance the poster is from UK, too), it's highly possible it's the S model he has...
