Monitor sizes in 1995

15" monitor for me. In all the system cost about 1200GBP know it had
Pentium 75
8mb Ram
500mb HDD
Video was something like 4mb
CDROM
Win 3.1

slightly off topic, but it seems memory capacity (average RAM and hdd) has increased by 1000 in the space of about 17 years
4-16 mb to around 4 -16 gb
500 -1000mb - 500-1000gb+

Good god this post has made me think that when I came uni I had a 19" CRT monitor, I even had it when I moved into this house :O, then I got a 17" LCD that was same res, then another, then a 24" dell and now this 30" dell, christ iv lived here along time! lol

Back then I had an Iiyama 15 Inch Vision Master Pro, we paid some £200 for it, and its still in use now. Happily pumps out 1280 x 1024 :)

Wasn't a fish bowl screen either, was a flat job, (not TFT) I do miss it as my sister has it now, was a cracking bit of kit in its day.

I believe my first PC had a 12" screen, it was a 386 and it would have been circa 1995/6.

It wasn't until my upgrade to 486 that I got a 14" screen that looked like a fishbowl! :p

I did upgrade to TFT quite early though, splurged most of my student loan on a Sony 14" back in 2002ish.

Full spec was
P120
15" monitor
1GB HDD :o
16mb Ram
Win 3.11 FWG and DOS 6.22
Gravis Ultrasound Soundcard
and a x16 speed cd reader
I cant remember what gfx was installed, but it did have a TV Card.

Lmao jesus at the time i bet that was amazing..now i doubt it would run I.E lol it makes me laugh to think we will be looking back in 15 years time at todays computer (the one in my sig) and thinking "..jesus... a 580?... 6GB ram?.... 2TB HARD DRIVES?!?! WHAT WERE WE THINKING" lol

I remember seeing my dad come back with an absolutely huge Iiyama CRT in about 2000. I'm sure it cost him about £900 or something stupid. I was only about 13 at the time. It was the biggest (and heaviest :D) thing I had ever laid eyes on, but it was glorious.

I'm considering getting one and keeping it for when I have the desk space to accommodate it :D

Hi chaps,

This might seem like a stupid question, and it is. But I'm going to ask it anyway: what size monitor would the average home PC bought in 1995 have had? I'm trying to remember what my first PC had, and I've got it in my head that it was 11 inches. But that seems ridiculously small now, and I'm thinking maybe it was 14. However, I'm sure I didn't get a 14 inch monitor until later.
I tried to put a topic in that made sure you knew the kind of pointless topic that would be contained within. If you feel your time has been wasted reading this, I sympathise.

Cheers,

MD

i got a 15" 800x600 as i believe
