I know a lot of people here rate the Samsung LCD TV's for the 360 so I was wondering if anyone had experience of the new range of Samsung LCD's for example the R73 / R74 series "LE26R74BDX" being the latest 26" Samsung LCD.
It has a specific "gaming" mode built in amongst other features:

Video input : Component, VGA and HDMI (amongst others)
Audio Output : TOS link
Built in Digital Tuner
8ms response time
1366 x 768 pixels
1024 x 768 (XGA)
1360 x 768
640 x 480 (VGA)
720 x 400
800 x 600 (SVGA)

1080i
480i
480p
576i
576p
720p

It seems to have all the bases covered and I thought it looked like a decent TV for either my computer room and or the bedroom (I can see a second 360 going with this).

Does anyone know how it compares to the exisiting 26" Samsungs out there (which are likely to get a bit cheaper as soon as these hit the shelves in greater numbers) or are there better 26" LCD's for the money - this is about £630 inc VAT.

I seem to recall someone mentioning that the pixel ratio was not so good for the 360?

I have the LE32R74BDX 32inch and its fantastic. Absolutly no complaints what soever, best purchase i have made in a long time.
Thing looks sexy even when it aint on ;)
The only issue i can really moan about is its a bit dark through components, but AFAIK that is a 360 issue more than anything.
It also has a preset gaming mode you can turn on which cranks up the brightness etc on the input you choose.
I am running components as i dont have a seperate sound systems to run VGA next to my TV and am too lazy to buy an adapter for the phono just now :p
I was runing my 360 through my Dell 2005fpw on VGA, and i think the Sammy is stunning, so much clearer (but then thats more so cos i am moving to a native resolution)
In Short, i love it :D

I read in a pc maagazine a few weeks back that samsung were doing a new 27inch, CRT TV, with HDTV and that.

thing is it was a third the size of a normal CRT tv and was only supposed to be around 300 quid, but i can't find the article anywhere!

this is the tv i want but i dunno where it is.

630 quid seems a bit steep for just 27inches like.

The CRT that you are thinking of has been discussed here before a few times. There are a number of concerns about it and sadly it looks as though it might not be all that we hoped it was going to be.

My main TV is a 50" HD screen downstairs in my living room but the wife keeps hogging it for Eastenders and my daughter is prone to letting me know that "MY PROGRAMS ARE ON" (CBeebies) making my chances of getting the 360 on before 9pm about nil. Hence I fancy a little TV upstairs, ideally one that can be used as a PC monitor as well.

Ive highlighted your problems!

Na joking of course - i think the Samsungs are great TV's not seen any of the newer models in action myself, but surely they cant of got worse?

Im hoping to upgrade my 28" CRT to a 37" LG LCD HDTV soon, as my dad wont let me use his 40" Sont :(

just to inform you any 'BDX' model is a refurbished model, not an original model. It's one of the ones that's been fixed or had something changed for whatever reason.

B - Base Model
D - Digital Tuner
X - Refurbished.

I contacted Samsung regarding this when I saw a site advertising a "NEW LE32R41BDX" and the guy at Samsung sounded less than happy at a retailer lying about a Samsung product.

OOOH. Now that is a very handy bit of information to know and puts things in perspective a bit. I could not understand why the price was low compared to similar older tech.
Refurbished can mean anything from replaced a component on the board to ripped out the innards and replaced them. Hmmm. Technically a refurbished model should be no worse than a non refurb and carries identical guarantee but there's just something about that which concerns me.

LOL. So very true. I hope the sprog due in August is a boy, I am outnumbered, even the cat is female.

Fingers Crossed!

I got my Dad but he hates computers / games and sports, lol. Fortunately he loves big TV's and good sound and likes films. but my sister has him round her little finger, and like all good men wont stand up to my mum because its just suicide :D

incidently B means Black

and as for x meaning refurbished, i am not saying you are wrong, but i haven't seen anything to say its a refurb model, and the BDX where out at the exact same time as the BD's, the R7's only came out a month or so ago.
I also assumed it was BDX as the model was called Bordeaux
If it does mean refurbished can you point me to a legit source, cos if so i think i will do some complaining ;)
Also its unusual for a refurbished anything to come with a full 12 month warranty

I assumed B meant base model, I wasn't sure.
However D definitely means "Digital Tuner" and X means "Refurbished" as I contacted Samsung on the phone to query the fact.

Nope B means Black, d does mean Digital tuner. But i can find no refferences on the net with regards X being a refurb and just about every online retailer, inlducing places like John Lewis' (sorry if its a competitor) are selling the BDX with nobody mentioning its a refurb. And, like i said above, they only came out in april, i ordered mines on the 19th which was a week after the came out. So if these are all refurbs i would be very very surprised they have that many in such a short space of time.

Okay, the reason was my friend was getting a TV for his room, I recommended a budget TV so we settled on the LE32R41BD as it had a digital freeview on it (which he wanted). I then started to see the 'BDX' advertised on certain sites, obviously thinking it's a better version, so I looked on the Samsung website... they don't advertise it. They have the 'B' and 'BD', I thought it odd that they wouldn't advertise their own TV so I phoned them and was told 'X' is refurbished so they don't advertise it on their site, however, you can purchase them from retailers.

This is all I was told from the man on Samsung support about 2 months ago.

I just phoned Samsung to check this out as some retailers are saying that there is no difference between the two units (BD and BDX).

Samsung tell me that there is no specification difference between the two and that there is no external difference between the two.

What they say is that internally the BD and BDX have some slight differences. I am supposing as they weren't entirely sure that this is probably down to a set of components coming from 2 different sources and a way of identifying the units accordingly.

In essence then neither are refurbs and both are identical and brand new for all intents and purposes.

Really? When I rang them 2 months ago the guy said the reason we advertise the "LE32R41BD" and not the "LE32R41BDX" on the site is one is a refurbished model, the other is a proper retail model.

Odd that they would now say something different.

Going through their site now there are a number of TV's that do have an X on the end although the 26 inch R7 range all end BD.

If you google "le26r7bd le26r7bdx difference" several sites claim they are identical models with no differences to the consumer.

I might drop them an email and try and get it confirmed in writing. I just phoned them and said I want to buy one fo the 26 inch R74 LCD TV's and I want to know what differences there are between the BD and BDX models.

Thanks for clearing that up VIRII ;)

LOL. It isn't cleared up until we get something in writing regarding the model number oddity.
I've seen model number suffixes before for minor component changes on PC parts etc.

http://www.burnyourbonus.co.uk/hdtv-faq/faq5.html

The model numbers indicate different colours as follows
LExxR71B - Blue and Black
LExxR71W - White
LExxR72B - Silver and Black
LExxR73BD - Blue and Black with digital tuner
LExxR74BD - Silver and Black with digital tuner
LExxR74BDX - Silver and Black with digital tuner (X indicates sold through a retailer)

Everywhere seems to suggest the TV's are the same but no-one seems to be explaining the X away in the same way as anyone else.
