Monitors - when did you convert to TFT?

Late... very late... I was using an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 410 connected via BNC till about 6 years ago.

Like wise with work, I was still using a CRT in the office, till I left and start using a laptops in the workshop. Then I started working in college about 5 years ago and used dual dell 17" TFTs.

I'm currently using an imac 21.5 with a thunderbolt 22" display at home and a imac 27" and 27" 4K Dell at the moment at work.

My eye sight has even been the best so, it's not really bothered me.. Only switch to a 32" flat screen tv for the living room about 6 years ago and got a 24" flat screen tv 4 years ago. I don't watch much TV.

I still have a 15" CRT panny in the office for retro gaming, going to switch to a broadcast monitor when I can.

2004... 24 inch dell!

Cost 800 quid. Which was basically my entire summer job earnings. Happy days.

I got my first TFT back in 2004... old CRT before that which was oddly better than the cheap TFT I bought.

Just realised in my OP I didn't give the year number for my Viewsonic (1st home TFT)... it was year 2004.

But yeah 2004/5 does seem to be around the average from the responses here.

For those who mentioned laptops like in post #2, I think that would count as a TFT due to the laptop screen's technology!

A dell 2007wfp in 2007, it was unreal to me. Still going strong but just retired it, now got a dell s2716dg and a 2715h . sat looking at one at a time. really don't need this amount of screen real estate .

The good old days of square LCD monitors :p

You struck a chord there as I only have 1 eye. 4:3 setting was much preferred due to this, and the largest monitor ever available was 20" (by Viewsonic). My only option nowadays for above 20" is 16:10 setting which Dell still do e.g. Ultrasharp U2412M. Otherwise everything else is 16:9 which isn't great for 1-eyed vision.
