Monitors - when did you convert to TFT?

Had a 1024 x 768 AOC monitor in 2002/2003 I think. It's still in use in our DC build room funnily enough. :)
 
I got a TFT at home in 2007 I think, I'd stopped playing competitive online games so it seemed a good time to make the switch (at that time TFT tech was a bit limited, max 75hz, so I had been holding on to CRT for the higher refresh rates). Prices had also come down to a vaguely acceptable level relative to the screen size / resolution, it was £220 for 22" 1680x1050. The thing people may have forgotten is how pricey TFTs were 10+ years ago based purely on size/resolution/refresh rate (I appreciate that they came with other benefits - nobody would have bought them otherwise!). Oh and another thing, I hated 5:4 aspect ratio which was common in the early days of TFT. Plus native resolution was really annoying compared to CRT which was much more compatible with the different games, or if you needed to drop resolution to gain performance etc. Also as I have really bad eyesight I generally prefer lower DPI than most people so being able to adjust resolution based on screen size was a big boon (when I had a 19" CRT, I found 1152x864 to be the sweet spot for my eyes). The more I reminisce the more I remember how annoyed I was at TFT tech taking over!

At work, it was in September 2010 I think. We moved offices and the new desk I was given was too shallow to to fit my 21" CRT and a keyboard in front of it, so I had it replaced.

Pretty sure it was 2003 for me and it was a 17" Samsung (SM171S, not sure why I can still remember that) which I'm sure cost around the £300-350 mark. Ended up having that for a little over 2 years before my work bought me a 20" Dell in 2005 for working on Xmas day.

Still got the 17" Samsung lurking around at my parents' house somewhere and it still works fine as far as I know.
 
I recall the school I was at moving to TFTs around 2002'ish. Must have been an expensive upgrade with the amount of computers they had. I then went to a college which was like going back in time as they were all CRT with computers from the mid to late 90s

By the time I was working in 2005 they moved to TFT just as I started but it was a new office. My old boss got giddy and bought triple 17" monitors for a room full of workstations and then never got graphics cards capable of powering 3 screens so we just used two for the year I was there :p

At home I used to run a HUGE 20 something inch CRT until I finally bought a 22" Samsung flatscreen towards the end of 2007 as I had some money left over from buying a new car. By this point they weren't particularly expensive I don't think.
 
At work - as and when the existing monitors came due for replacement, starting about 8 to 10 years ago.

At home - depends on which PC. First one, about 5 years ago. Last couple - still haven't, as they're high-end colour accurate Eizos and I've yet to see a TFT I want to replace them with.
 
Got given 17.4" TFT as a work leaving present around 2001. That was a very expensive screen back then.

still think that was one of the best screen ever made. Miss them.
 
It was some horrible 14 or 15" thing back when they were first coming about.

I'd guess around '99-2000.

I do too. I was gutted when mine blew. I had a repair carried out once but when it died for the 2nd time I decided to let it go. They were an awesome monitor back in the days.....

Very popular with the OCuk crowd back in 2001 (2002 maybe?). 18" seemed massive at the time!

I believe that it cost about £7-800.
 
An awful one around 1999/2000 time. Had zero viewing angles :D Went back same day and swapped it for a 17" Dell CRT.
 
Absolutely no idea but it was a 17" iiyama with 12ms goodness back when +20 was the norm.

Degaus always felt like it was damaging, i don't think i ever "had" to use it!
