I'm thinking of ordering this system, to edit and game on.

(I already have 2 x 3tb HD, 2 x palit 580gtx 3gb dd5 GPU's, blueray burner and card readers win7 ultimate.)

  1. Asus RAMPAGE IV EXTREME/BF3
  2. Corsair Obsidian Series 800D, Black, Full Tower Case, with Side Window, 3 x 140mm Fans
  3. Corsair CC800D-SATA6KIT Obsidian Series 800D SATA 6Gb/s Upgrade Kit
  4. Corsair CC800D-USB3KIT Obsidian Series 800D/700D Front Panel USB 3.0 Upgrade Kit
  5. Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme, S 2011, Sandy Bridge, Six Core, 3.3GHz, 15MB Smart Cache, 130W, Retail
  6. 1500W PSU, Enermax EMR1500EGT [MaxRevo], Modular, 94% Eff', 80 PLUS Gold, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Quiet Fan, ATX
  7. 64GB (8x8GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Red, PC3-14900 (1866), Non-ECC, CAS 10-11-10-30, XMP, 1.5V, X79, Z68 & P67
  8. 100GB SSD + 1TB HDD OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid 25nm MLC-Flash, x4 slot PCI-E, Read 910MB/s, Write 810MB/s, 120K IOPS
  9. H100 Corsair water cooler
any parts need changing and how will this perform. and wheres the best place to buy?

That system will be absolute overkill for pretty much everything so no I wouldn't change the components. You are obviously a very rich man :D.

One thing, if you are spending all that money on the 'ultimate' system, why not go for a full on custom water loop instead of the h100. It would be a drop in the ocean compared to the rest of the system and would be a vast improvement with near infinite future cooling upgrade prospects.

I dont know anyting about water cooling apart from I have used a H60 in a previous system.

I am not a rich man but have received a refund from alienware after the watercooling leakead and killed my system.

I will be using my system to edit mostly so dont need to over clock the gpus or water cool them! the corsair 800d has room for a triple radiator and fan for water cooling.

im after bolt in solutions but are open to sugestions if its not too complex and will not leak!

Hi Stulid
That looks great, What is included?
triple radiator? pump 2011 cpu block?

is it just the cpu thats cooled? and whats the adantage over the H100 performance wise?
also whats the situation with possible leaks? are they rare. and how damaging?

thanks

Looking at the spec of the EX system in that prooduct page,

Triple RAD
Three Yate Loon fans.
Pump and reservoir
Intel (or AMD optional) water block that supports all intel platforms (775,1156,1155,1366,2011)

All the tubing all pre-fitted, just add the supplied thermal paste and attach to the board.

is it just the cpu thats cooled?

Yes, but you can get additional parts to then water cool the GFX and plumb it into the system - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=962&catid=1520&sortby=priceAsc

and whats the advantage over the H100 performance wise?

The pump will be moving more water and the radiator will be thicker and bigger and thats the key thing with water cooling, the more metal and surface area for air flow to pass over the better cooling you will get.

Also the H100 is a sealed unit so alterations are almost impossible.

also whats the situation with possible leaks? are they rare. and how damaging?

Very rare, the fittings used are solid and the tubing is strong.

Dont forget you can look at EK water cooling stuff on youtube also

4.8 - 5.0Ghz seems common, but it all depends on the actual chips and the board and this and that etc.

trying to get hold of 64gb ram seems overclockers dont have it listed 2 x 32 vengence

the only reason is that i use adobe after effects abd encore and premier pro. they can use 3gb per thread ie 36gb on 12 thread 3960x

also gives possibility of using it as a ram disk.

cheers

was a nw thread really needed? could you simply not updated the changes on your old thread?

how many ram slots are there on the new motherboards? do they even do quad channel 64gb yet? going 2x 32gb may not fit on the motherboard(too many 'sticks')

Quite surprised they don't offer the Watercooled cases as part of a custom build on the site, actually. What is the "OcUK Extreme H2Flo" system like? Is it just a rebadge of some other kit or some sort of custom made system?

Some of the X79 motherboards have 8 RAM slots so would take 8x8GB.

However, given the price of the RAM stulid linked 64 GB would cost half of the OP's £2,600 budget (if I remember the budget correctly).

its $770 which in 'real money' is £490 current exchaange rate(£1 = $1.57), a compatitor has it fir £443 so 64gb would be £886 ~1/3 of the budget.

I did think of re using old thread but desided not to.
Budget raised to £3000 to enable 64gb wanted to get stulid involved but he never replied on old thread!

everything has to be flexible, even on a £3000 budget im only finding £340 new money after refund

adobe after effects uses 0.75 , 1 , 1.5, 2, 3gb per thread.
3960x 12 threads so 32gb would leave 29gb after back ground programs set to min.
so it would allow 2gb per thread and utilise 24gb when rendering.

64gb would allow 3gb to be used per thread and use 36gb's or 48 gb's when the 8 core cpus come out
