Monster system check please

just a quick thought stulid, i have 3 4gb sticks of sector 7 patriot ram left from my original x58 build, would 2 of those work?

in this i know they are triple channel. not sure of compatability issues.
need that 4.5ghz over clock too

as long as it does 1.5v(1.65v max) then its fine, you can't use ram that needs volts higher than that

Ive had a look around on google, and coming from 3 identical sticks to 2 in dual is easy, its people trying to get a 4th to run in 4th slot dual that seem to have problems.

its not a huge amount of money but every bit helps

The correct answer is that you can use the ram, or even add ram aslong as the timings and volts are the same.

So you can add a 4gb stick to give 16gb, or use two of them with a 2x4gb kit to give 16gb

mind will still need the basic over clock settings for the system on Monday?

cheers

I bet you if you leave everything as standard and just set the ratio to 40X it will boot up and be fine.

There maybe two ways of setting this 40X if its similar to my board, one is by setting the Turbo ratios for the CPU to 40X so it gets to that speed when pushed hard, the other is to disable Turbo and set 40X for the CPU ratio and so it always stays at 4Ghz.

Leave speedstep/Turbo on if you want as it will save power while doing sod all with the PC and will go to 4GHz when needed..

This might make it simpler to understand,

The top number set at 40 with Turbo disabled gives you 4ghz all the time.

The top number left at 33 (stock value) with the turbo figures set to 40 each, gives you 4GHz as you need it.
