Watching a movie yesterday and in the dark scenes there was a good 6" of large horizontal bands across the top of the screen, very noticeable. The TV was purchased 25th May, so not that old and not had many hours of use. I wasn't made aware when buying an OLED they came with these potential issues, I would have considered not going OLED otherwise.

What can I do at this point? Was bought from Richer sounds.

Edit: Spoke to RS and they said bring the TV to them and they will give me a new one.

Is this issue likely to be a common thing or am I unlucky?

Have you played with the brightness at all. If I push mine above 52 then I see banding when it's very dark in the room and it's a dark scene.

If I drop mine below that level then I cannot see it at all no matter how dark.

Its bright enough with out going higher. I understand your disappointment as I also wasn't aware of OLED banding. I would have gone QLED if I had of done.

Are the bands because of the white text? like a shadow across the screen? I remember once having a plasma that did something like that.

Return it for another. It looks like a bad one to me. I've got a dark spot on mine but only on a particular grey screen. Its a bit annoying but I just can't be arsed to sort it out and return it. Its only visible on very very specific screen types and even then you have to look at it directly.

That's same sort of banding Plasma screens do too, OLEDS suffer from it too and well known with this type of emissive screen. Either swap it with a QLED FALD or a Sony FALD if this type of thing annoys you. One of the many reasons why I didn't go OLED after decades of Plasma screens.

Check out the Sony XF90 they are good and and the recent update has made them great again with Oreo after the update about a month ago messed up the brightness of the UI. If banding annoys you just wait till you get retention and burn in which will happen in time too as it did with all my plasma screens from Pioneer to Panasonic. Get a FALD LCD for now and wait it out till MicroLED becomes common place as I have done and went with the 75" XF90 that I'm very happy with.

RS are good just explain to them that you are not happy with the OLED banding issues that you were not aware of and ask them to replace it with a QLED FALD or a Sony FALD. You also still have the right to return and ask for a full refund remember but you will not have to do that with RS as they are great and will not want to loose you as a customer and making sure you are happy with your purchase.

Thanks, any recommendations for FALD around £1500? Something like the Sony KD65XF9005?

What OLED do you have @LiE? And what are your main uses for your TV? The Q70R is decent but won't be in the same category as a good OLED TV. It's got FALD but only has 50 dimming zones, which is very low (for reference the flagship Q90R has 480). This will lead to some noticeable blooming and haloing around bright objects on an otherwise dark background, so things like subtitles, light sources in a dark scene, etc. Imo either give a replacement OLED a chance or go for the Q80R or Q90R. Both are quite close in terms of performance and seem to be very well reviewed.
