Last log was based around my last comp so will start a new one for my Inters/opens life as a strongman!!

Old log here : http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18477964

Comp History:

3rd @ Bristols Strongest Man 2012
4th @ Muscle Inc Summerslam Novice 2012
2nd @ England's Most Powerful Man Novice 2013.

I'm intending to run Vanilla Gorilla's Forced Entry (possibly condensed version) until my next comp which is 11 weeks away.

Next comp:
Oswestry's Strongest Man - Static Show Down
Events:
Max log (3 designated lifts)
180kg squat for reps
Max deads (3 designated lifts)
60kg DB reps FTOH
Hurcules Pillars
~10kg throw for height

It is tagged as inters, so my first step up.

Additionally to be a half decent inters level fat bloke I have a few goals that I think are quite good.

Deadlift: rep 300kg
Log: rep 140kg
Farmers: move with 150kg each hand
Yoke: move with 350kg
Stones: rep 160kg, load our 180
Squats: >250kg back, >200kg front.

Some of those goals are very high inters standard I think, but then I don't want to be a mediocre inters person :)

Alongside the above I will be getting back into the pool a few mornings a week before work, this is a necessity imo.

Light week this week ahead, just to get my body working and moving. Also working in more mobility work where needed (everywhere!) :)

Overhead:

warmups
log, 1 clean, reps from chest:
70kgx10
70x10
90x5
110x3
110x3
120x1 - Equal PB
90x5

Block clean
New 110kg block, never played with it before, cleaned 5 times different ways, found my preferred way so will move on to clean and press :)

strict axle from rack
40x10
60x10
80x5
80x5
90x5
90x5

Done

Thoughts:
So much for a light easy session, 120kg log was hard, my feet were all over the place in my shoes. Still need more time in them to work out what i'm doing clearly.

Didnt quite happen tonight, just too busy for too much variation in training. Need to really think about this as Weds it is looking like we will have 10-12 people doing deads and back work. In a tiny unit. Hmmm.

Log push press
clean 1st rep only, reps from chest
70x5
70x5
70x5
90x5
90x5
100x5
100x5
100x5

45 min break while getting my boy and getting back to unit

strict axle from rack:
40x10
60x10
80x10
90x5
90x5
90x5

Wanted to do some incline db's but no space.

axle split jerks, in an attempt to get my legs working and build some explosion
40x10 (5 front/back, 5 side)
60x6 (3 f/b, 3 side)
80x6 (3 f/b, 3 side)
10x4 (2 f/b, 2 side)

Thoughts:
Unit too busy, not good when you want to do variations of different stuff. Legs were apparently pointless on my push pressing, so some split jerks to build some power and see if i could actually do them. Managed 100kg on the axle quite easily for reps.

Deads. Hot and busy in the unit tonight, 9 of us at one point!!

warmups
60x10
60x10

3" deficit deads
60x10
110x10
150x5
190x5
215x3
230x1

normal deads
230x1
250x1
220x3
200x5

18" deads. no idea why, wasn't planning on doing these
280x2
300xf

pendlay rows
100x5
100x5
100x5

thoughts:
was sweating all night, wasn't a good environment with so many people and the temp tbh. 250kg felt easier than 230 for some reason.

We now have a team comp that I've been put forward to do 18" deads 300kg for reps, so next week will be 18"s only to start to build some rep ability!

Yeah, hopefully with more practice and confidence in my knees I'll start moving a bit faster.
Really need to do them on a normal bar also, as doing on the axle isn't the best way to drill something lol

Front squats and circus db

Warmups
60x10
60x10
110x5
110x5
110x5
110x5
110x5
130x3
140x2
150x1 - equal pb, felt easy enough considering volume already done.

Circus db
33kg 5 left, 5 right
43kg 5 left, 5 right
53kg 3 left, 5 right
63kg f,f

Thoughts
Front squats were good, felt fine. Will try 160kg pb soon.
Circus db was being done with a side split jerk which was new to me, felt good though. 63kg was a touch too much with new technique. Will progress though I'm sure.

Monday overhead (day 1 of 2)

push ME

strict tonight as i have some spare time, push press tomorrow.

axle from rack
40x10
40x10
40x10
60x10
70x8
70x8
80x5
90x1
95x1
100x1
105xf - wtf, just completely lacking 1 rep strength, this was terrible.

so 100x1 was daily max
90% - 90x3
80% - 80x5
not enough at all. so
80x5
80x5
80x5
80x5
just to make up for lack of anything.

incline db
45x6
45x6
45x6

band pull aparts and dislocations.

stict on its own doesnt do enough for me, got push press tomorrow though so that will make up for it.

Strong number of sets on that Axle rack :D

What's your normal incline DB? I'm guessing it's much higher than that if you do it before a load of axle work

Yeak, max strict then the 90/80% drops after just dont work in terms of volume for me. it's too little lol.

Not sure on incline, in terms of db's we have my adjustable ones to 30kg each and the solid 45kg ones. I'll try some incline before doing other work next time I go to virgin, though they only have 50's i think. Hmm.

Didn't notice you had a new log, shall be interesting to see how the training goes.

Yeah thought I'd start a new one for my step up :D

We've put ourselves into a team comp in September, up in rotherham.

Event 1...... 18" Deadlift, the weight is a massive 300kg for reps - 75 seconds time limit, requires 1 team member.

Event 2...... log, the weight is 110kg for reps - 75 seconds time limit, requires 1 team member

Event 3...... 120kg Farmers and 230kg Yolk tag team, distance is 20 mtrs, farmers first then must tag team member who then goes with the yolk, requires 2 team members

Event 4...... This is a Loading Medley, requiring 2 team members to load two items each one at a time tagging over to load the next item, the items are 65kg keg, 100kg keg, 125kg barrel and a 100kg sack

Event 5...... The Van deadlift make of van to follow (won't be light)

Event 6...... The classic stones of strength, this event requires ALL 6 team members to load one stone each, weights to follow

Event 7...... 250kg Frame Carry and 300kg Tyre flip, requires two team members, frame carry first and then tag over to the second team member for 6 flips of the tyre
*** this could end up being tug of war for all of team

I'll be doing the 18" deadlift (will be doing 18s on thurs to see if I can at least pull 300 from 18"!), one of the stones and unsure if anything else. Fine by me as it's a week after my static comp.

I'm glad I did some overhead on monday as last night was near on pointless. few friends turned up for some circus db training as they have it in a comp soon which meant our normal stuff went out the window.

all push press:
log
70x5
70x5
70x5
90x5
90x5
110x3

Wanted to do more, but no space. The 110s were not as good as the 90's, it's like all i was doing before was forgotten and minimal leg work came back!

circus db (all right arm only)
33x5
43x5
53x1
63x1

no time to try a pb, had to go. shame. just gotta keep using legs, where I think i am over dipping I am actually about getting it right, just it seems a big dip because I dont really do much than slight bend of the knees normally lol

Yeah, sometimes things get ninja filmed, generally not when I'm doing anything though as I tend to shout at the person for filming me :D
I was doing double dips with the push presses on the lighter logs, but not on the 110, just gotta keep repping the lower weights and build it up :)

I shy away from cameras of any sort lol.
At a friends wedding, the official tog took over 500 photos. I managed to be only in the background of a few and was in 1 main photo. Good work me :D

Deadlifts. order of the day is 18" for heavy reps.

Get to gym and people are packing the van with plates.... umm..

New toy has been bought, we're off to the park apparently!

New toy - sled.
Going to the park:
Sled, heavy keg, 200kg plates, harness, rope, chain, duck walk.

Oh ****, i hate stuff like this!!

Sled pulls (not inc weight of sled):
100kg 20m
100kg 20m
75kg 20m turn 20m

sled harness
100kg x 20m
100kg x 20m

medley:
keg 15m, 70kg sled 5m, duck walk 110kg 10m
turn
duck walk 110kg 10m, 70kg sled 5m, keg 15m

62 secs. Not bad for me!

sled arm over arm while standing
75kg x 5m, 3 times quickly
75kg x 5m, 3 times quickly

Then because we had stuff...

tug of war, I won against everyone (2 are as heavy as me so not just a weight thing :p)
25kg plate overhead throw - about 5 meters was my furthest in 3 attempts.

Then to help pack up, 130kg duck walk 30m from grass to van.

Thoughts:
I hate conditioning. Never realised how hard on the quads sled drag is!!

Oh my holy hell, far too hot tonight.
everyone else buggered off to the park again for more conditioning, i wanted to do overhead though so stayed at the unit and boiled.

axle push press with double dip:
not done double dips before so trying it out....
40x10
40x10
60x10
60x10
60x10
80x5
100x3
110x1
115x1
120xf
100x3
100x3
100x3
100x3
100x3

axle strict press, from rack
75x5
75x5
75x5
75x4
75x4

done.
didn't have much time and it was boiling, was sweating like mad all night. not good.

happy with the double dips, knees were a bit wobbly and at one point in the first 100kg set i was tempted to sack it off, but kept going.

strict press was a disappointment, but given the heat it was expected that i would be a bit down on strength!
