More 6870 Benchmarks...

Where did you read that?

Can't remember, I probably made it up though. It appears that the core part is going to be a tweaked Evergreen but the uncore is benefiting from NI features. That would make sense and 30% overall improvement plus double the tessellation performance may be possible in this case. Nonetheless the benchmarks seem fake.

They could have more tesselation engines, like when you Crossfire two 5770's together they can beat a 5870 in Extreme crossfire by a decent amount.

If the expected 400 ~ SP increase is correct then that alone would boost tessellation performance. Then add to that the NI pipe line modifications plus whatever clock speed increase ATI manage and we should see a very decent improvement over the 5000 cards IMO.

If you look at the below performance of a 5850 clocked at 5870 speeds and them both compared in the heaven bench, the shader difference makes virtually no difference in performance.

5850 @ 5870 clocks 39.8fps
5870 @ Stock clocks 40.4624fps
difference 1.66%

If ATI stick with a dedicated tessellation unit, then they better make it a big mutha.

Very good point!

It would be called AMD 6800

Reminds me of the Motorola 6800 days, dont they still have a copyright on that

AMI 6800: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/6800/AMI-S6800.html

Not very original are they :o
