More points forces new car...

You will loose more money in the cost to change than you will save in the insurance!

Even if I buy a car that is of equal value to the one I sell? Plus I'll be saving money each day by having a more economical motor

Are the distances you do lots of short runs or long runs. If it's lots of short runs then a diesel will be pointless anyway. Can't see why the Fiesta is so high.:confused:My Astra 1.8 SRi was only Group 9.

EDIT: Just checked Parkers and the highest 1.6 Zetec S Fiesta is Group 8. Who are you getting quotes from at the moment?

I cannot imagine you saving anything significant moving from a 1.6 Fiesta to a 1.4 HDi 206. From the way you were talking I was expecting you to say you drive an Impreza Turbo or something.
I thought the same thing, i dont think the problem here is the car in question.

You put money down for the fiesta, you can't sell the fiesta for what you paid for it, you have maintained and looked after it at full dealers price, so the loss to you is price you paid minus price you sell, that is the loss.

If you buy a 206 a dealer is selling he will offer say (For example) 4k for your car when its really worth 5k and then charge you 4k for a 206 thats really worth 3.5k (For example) see what i mean?

May I suggest (I will get shot for this)... a 1.2 Corsa :p

It's slow enough to annoy you by the time you get to 30mph (unless you take it to 6k revs in first gear, which takes you to 30mph already), good economy from twinport engine (that is if you opt for the newer Corsas with twinport engines) and you get a nice red line on the speedo that indicates 30mph so you'll know if you've gone pass it or not. At group 3, insurance is very low.

Also, the 1.3CDTi Corsas are pretty good too.

Lol, yea, if you really dont wana break the speed limit a 1.2 corsa would be great for you, i suggest a black SXi.

Oof, some people pay a lot! Was 400 quid for my 130BHP rear-drive Brit saloon of preferred taste! And I'm only 19! Through NUD! People are missing a right laff :D

My Fiesta is group 10 insurance and the Peugeot is only group 4. Can anyone suggest something of similar size to the 206 (has to be diesel) that may suit my needs

If all your worried about is the premiums, then get a fiat panda. small, cheap to buy, cheap to run, economical :p

Have you tried shopping around for a cheaper quote? Couldnt you downgrade to a smaller engined fiesta?

Sorry, my bad - I was one insurance group out - looking on Parkers confirms thta it is group 9 (it's a 2001, 1.6 Ghia 5d - which has the zetec sport engine and all the extras as well).

Believe me I have shopped round till the cows come home and most online insurance places will only let you enter 2 convictions e.g. 6 points worth

Ah. You need to start ringing round. You will find insurance companies who won't quote you online will infact give you a quote over the phone and you might even get lucky. :)

Changing your car I'm sure will make very little difference in the end money wise and the only real point of having a diesel is if you were going to change the car anyway and intend on doing over at least 25K per year.
