More POWER!

I tried overclocking my cpu a little earlier to 4gig but the cores went up to 79c at one point duno if i did sonething wrong with the volts >.<

What settings would you suggest using? im clueless on oc'ing >.<

I'm only familiar with the basics of overclocking, and haven't found I needed to change much at all.

1. During boot, press delete to go into the BIOS.

2. Alter the 'CPU Clock Ratio' from 36 (it reads 3.6 in your sig) to another value, say 38 = 3.8. Leave everything else alone at this stage.

Save and exit bios. Download a program like coretemp to monitor your temperature readings.

I've changed one or two other things, but these are not necessary atm. Just experiment with the above, it may be all you need to do.

What are your temps like on the stock cooler Arc?

Coretemp currently reads a minimum of 25 /24 / 25 / 25 , and a maximum of 39 / 36 / 36 / 38 (all idle of course). :)

I don't think Heaven is cpu intensive, but I could do a run to see how much temps change. The only other benchmark I have installed is the one for Stalker COP, which I think is more likely to stress the cpu.

thats a large difference between idle temps :S

I might well have been running something on the desktop shortly before taking the reading.

I've closed a few things down now and the max temps have dropped. Is this ok?

Min 26 / 26 / 25 / 26
Max 34 / 33 / 33 / 34

I've also enabled speed step. I originally turned it off because there seemed to be poorer performance when running CS:S.

looks fine. loads temps are the key though.

not loads temps running stress tests, because you will never get that in normal use.

use the pc for the most demanding thing you ever do. then record the temps there :)

just ordered a "Cooler Master Hyper 612S CPU Cooler"

should arrive friday, got the house to myself that night also so will try blowing up my Pc then :)

Look forward to you posting your results (nice cooler btw). :)

Please don't blow your pc up! :D

I hope not to lol

Am i right in just setting it to 44 and lowering the vcore offset until the cores fail the stress tests? Confused about the turbo offset also

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that, though I can see where you're coming from. Either wait to see what another poster can add, or make a thread in the cpu sub forum. :)

You can do this or you can go up. I would start at 4.1 (decent chip will hit this on stock voltage). and then work your way up till it isn't stable. (run prime95 for 30 mins but please watch the temps closely). When it crashes (BSOD), go back to your last stable run. It takes time but worth it. Leave speedstep on.

Ok, so just so im clear then

Set multiplier to 41, run prime for 30 mins, if this is ok, increase in increments of 1 or 2 until the stress test crashes the system, then increase the voltage slightly (.05 or .1)

am i close? lol

been scouring the net at work for stuff on this ready for friday so i can hit this thing hard...good thing is, its winter so should be better for core temps :)

Thanks, I think I've been lucky to pick up a better than average chip this time. Makes it a first where the cpu is concerned. :)

VID seems good too.

Same for me this round. My chips are down normally (no pun intended) and the only way to get them up is to up the volts far more than others at the same clock speeds.

60 / 54 / 50 / 50 max.
For stock cooling thats pretty good. With the hulking great alpenfohn k2 cooler, im getting about the same at 4.2ghz, albeit it's a quick and dirty asus turbo windows oc, 1.244 vcore is what the program sets.
