More storage needed.. SSD time?

arghh- dunno what to do then... want a fast o/s drive (think 60gb - 128gb would do for size), but these ssd's seem so expensive :o can get 4 1TB F1's for the price of 1 samsung 128gb

If samsung did the 60gb one but the same write speed as the 128gb that'd be the one I think :(

My budget will cover it but I feel robbed paying so much for such a small drive :o (for some reason it seemed more value if I had a smaller pair in raid than just the one)

Also had my heart set on raid - is 1 on it's own really that noticeable over say an F1 / raptor?

Hmmm, also no-one seems to stock the 128gb pb22-j!

I would say yes. I only have one. Believe me, I don't feel robbed. Now if 2 months from now they start selling these at like $75 then yeah, I'd feel like that was some BS. This drive has seriously spoiled me. I use other computers and have to keep reminding myself these people don't realize their computers are sloooow! I work on PC's and it's hard to not want to brag to customers about how much faster you could make their pc's but it's not a good idea as hardly anyone can afford one.

Couldn't have put it better myself. A single SSD beats a raptor hands down, plus of course SSD's don't make any noise, use less power, and are far cooler running too. People seriously can't appreciate what we are saying till they try one for themselves - do it and you'll never want to use a mechanical HDD again.

My only regret right now is only buying a 30gb, but have gone for a top end (I think?) drive, so all being well it'll be fine :)

At worst it'll just make me put down more money on more drives! :D

... will i need to upgrade the firmware right away?

When you hook up the drive and enter BIOS you should see it recognised as something like "OCZ Vertex xxxx" where the 'xxxx' shows the firmware revision. Also check the OCZ Forums here for info on the firmware, and other flashing guides here if needed. Note that you need a jumper to flash the drives - altho one may be supplied with the newest stock but the jury is still out on that one!

I know exactly what you mean - but imo you've done the sensible thing by getting one to try and go from there. I can practically gaurantee that once you've tried one you'll want all your Apps/Games etc to run off them, they really do make that much of a difference. Once you've been bitten you're lost to them!;)
