Considering most religions set out a standard you should aspire to but most accept human fallibility then your statement is hardly a revelation ;)

I'd say most people don't have a huge amount in common with their parents, especially when growing up most children actively oppose their parents likes because it's not 'cool'.

Did you watch the documentary perchance? If not watch it; would be interested to hear your perspective on it.
 
The official views of the church are creationist, homophobic and misogynistic so not really one I can really get behind... :D
 
Same as Russinating, I am not religious in any way shape or form but I would defend your right to follow any religion of your choice.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Many things we do or do not precisely because of the 'nurture' we received, science shows us this.

Not this one but I've watched my fair share in the past, they usually follow a fairly similar tack.
 
I think the main thing was how little the fellow they followed seemed to be 'enjoying' the experience. And unless they followed a load and picked the worst (which I doubt, on the kind of budget it looked to have) then that doesn't seem massively unrepresentative.

And how controlling the church was of the crew. If you've got nothing to hide... so the saying goes.
 
Quite a few other similar sects also even in this country though mostly on a smaller scale.

I feel sorry for anyone caught up in it.

Only if theyre already members otherwise no, generally only the full time missionaries tract (knock random doors).

I don't know, depends at what point the guy is psychologically, I've felt utterly miserable whilst being a member and yet I've also felt better than ive ever felt being a member. Everyone is at a different point in their journey and this is reflected in different ways.

I think the church is just very cautious of misrepresentation. It wouldn't be the first time.

I'm actually watching it now, I know the guy, he's nice but he had problems not related to the church and I don't think his understanding of the church is that great, at least when I knew him.
