Morons.

Please please tell me you are ****ing joking...... For one thing, heat isn't a by-product of light, heat and light are simply different wavelengths of radiation, both of which are, for example, by-products of passing an electric current through a fine metal wire. Both heat and light can be reflected, as can x-rays and radio waves!

So many people in this thread arguing that a reflective surface absorbs heat in the same manner as a dull one! Did none of you listen in physics lessons? Radiant heat is just a form of electromagnetic radiation, exactly like light!! It is true that in an oven the food also gets hot through conduction of the heat from the air to the food as well as by radiation from the surface of the oven, but it's not moronic to believe that foil shiny side in will cook the food faster than shiny side out, it's true!

Or are you all just being ironic in the moronic thread?

(not sure how much faster the food would cook by the way, but nevertheless there is a difference).

Pretty sure he means conduction although convection would play it's part.

The amount of irony/arrogance in the thread is funny.

I don't understand the insistence of using "ironic" in such ways, what's wrong with sarcastic? This whole "that's ironic" is a very American thing, and generally speaking you can bet that most people who claim something to be ironic, don't understand why irony is, and their claim is not ironic at all.

There's a measurable difference between 1.05mm and 1.0mm, and the difference will be very important in small scale engineering, but in the vast majority of applications though it means the same thing. I don't think there's a difference between the sides of foil (Foil manufacturer says the same thing, as well as the "How Do They Do It?" about foil) but if there's a tiny difference, it must be so minor that it's not even worth talking about as a difference when it comes to cooking.

The foil manufacturer says there is no difference in terms of cooking... but it definitely does not show a "lack of thinking", in fact quite the opposite.

I think anyone who instantly assumed two surfaces with different appearances/finishes were the same could be more strongly accused of a "lack of thinking".

Sarcasm and irony aren't the same thing (as I'm sure you're aware), however I don't think his usage of ironic can be replaced with sarcastic...

Someone intentionally saying something is moronic when it obviously isn't = sarcastic.

Someone seriously saying something is moronic when they are wrong themselves = ironic.

I should have said a lack of reasoned thinking. I'd imagine the thought process only goes as far as "they look different, they must behave different when cooking".

Most people who use "ironic" don't know what it means, and as I said the "saying the opposite of what you mean" isn't ironic, that's an American thing, it's actually sarcastic.

Being hypocritical or even wrong is also not ironic, it's wrong or hypocritical.

Why on earth is that lack of reasoned thinking? What is the next thought process that makes you totally discount that idea?

Because as I said, "it looks different, it must perform different". The thought of "maybe it's the fact that it's aluminium foil, and not because one side is shiny and one dull" is what I'd say is the reasoned thinking.

That makes absolutely no sense and certainly isn't "reasoned thinking."

It doesn't matter what the material is, if one side is different from the other it is more than reasonable to assume they behave differently, which is correct. The magnitude of the difference is not the point here.

I agree.

Occam's Razor is all about the simplest solution usually being the correct one. Assuming something that turns out to be wrong doesn't always mean the assumption was stupid or without reason.

I was working in a pub for ages and there was one lad there, probably dain bramaged from drugs or being dropped (not as a baby but recently id guess) anyway we were chatting about names and he says to Chad.. so whats the story behind your name then?

"Oh its the name of a country" Chad replied

"Which one?" /facepalm.

This same guy, got refused entry to a club because he got his date of birth wrong three times in a row and he was 21 at the time and works in a f0rking pub.

There are plenty of other gems he's come out with to.

The scientific attributes of tin foil?

I haven't heard a moron talk about that before. :p

My friend once asked for a "steak and cheese baguette" from subway then continued to say "without the cheese."

I had no idea if it was perfect trolling or just moronic at the time but damn it was funny.

I was once in the Supermarket with my wife, and saw her bending over the vegetables. I went up behind her and grabbed her in a fairly intimitate way to give her a shock. Unfortunately it was not my wife, just someone of similar build and wearing similar clothes.......... The woman was quite good about luckily.

I'll bet she was, you dog.

I had a complete retard moment at my great aunts funeral, upon meeting the mourning daughter I said "Nice to see you again"

Not so much a moron but more of a retard moment like Bennie-Mac's. A couple of years a go in work I said "See you later" to a blind man. Got a scowling look from his daughter and I just smiled back and said "See you." Wasn't until they got out of the shop until I realised what I said. :o

****ing hell that was lucky

Anyway I was just about to buy Pixelmator, then realised i'd already bought it :o Not ironic, just plain stupid.
