Mortal Kombat (2011)

Any tips for shao khan? Getting my **** handed to me every single attempt. Worst of it is, I seem to get pressed into a corner due to his charge ability which can't be blocked, then can't get out of it due to the air charge and being immune to sweep etc abilities he has lol. Hits like a speeding train as well :(

When you're Liu Kang use a combo of flying kick, bicycle kick, fire shot. Once you get those down you'll beat him. Just try and keep your distance as to will lose in close Kombat.

I figured out the ultimate cheap way of beating him.

As soon as the fight starts, just keep jumping over him. Left, right, left, right.

He'll keep spamming his upper shoulder charge, but miss you as you jump. Once in a while, rather than shoulder charge, he'll throw a hammer move or kick, but you'll be behind him.

Uppercut him, then move forward and resume the left and right jumps.

Rinse and repeat.

Occasionally, when gets up from being uppercutted he'll throw a high hammer swing which, you now being mid-air, you CAN'T avoid. Still, once he's done it just keep jumping again and he'll likely taunt, giving you another free uppercut.

Not the quickest way, but it gets the job done.

played the demo on ps3 and enjoyed it, played the full game on the 360 before and jebus the 360 controller is rubbish for fighting games - i like the 360 controller but its the first time i've went to use the 360s d-pad on a game and it sucks big time lol.

Hmm interesting approaches! Will try the keeping distance one first tomorrow after abit of practice with that character. Fav char so far is probably smoke as I can chain some mental combos and specials together very easily with him.

Had a play with kratos earlier on one of the ladder things in single player and his range feels less on leg sweeps and punches but maybe its just me? Its probably due to his animations being quite a lot different but who knows. I got absolutely slaughtered by kitanas mum whos name escapes me numerous times as kratos can't physically get close enough to her to do real damage lol.

Yea, the only genre the 360 pad really lacks in is fighting games because of its awful D-Pad plus sticky face buttons. Saying that, the ps3 pad isn't perfect either for fighting games.

Arcade sticks is the way to go. My thumb just doesn't move fast enough to do combo's.

OMFG! The old "Secret Fight With Classic Reptile" is still in this game!!!

You need to perform two flawless victories on the Pit, then you MUST perform the stage fatality. You'll be whisked to the bottom of the pit to fight classic Reptile. Also get an acheivment for it too. Sounds simpe right?

Except, you need Santa (yes santa!) to be flying by in the background (you can see him on the moon) before you can do this trick.

I also hear there's 3 other secret fights too. So, I guess that's some replay value.

Yep, it's got all the old secret fights.

It doesn't HAVE to be Santa in front of the moon. The witch on her broomstick also works.

Beyond that, as soon as you see Smoke peeking out from behind a tree in the Living Forest stage, press DOWN and BACK on the 360 controller to immediately be taken to a fight with retro Smoke.

Also, if you see Noob Saibot standing in the background of a fight, win the fight without using block to be taken to him.

Jade shows up if you beat Shang Tsuing with a Double Flawless and Fatality.

Yeah I was just reading about these.

I hear the easiest way to get Smoke is to spam the back button every 2-3 seconds as he still appears, even when not on screen. Peeps are also saying you just need to press back, not with down. So that should be easier.

I just love this game and I love that they have brought back all the memories from way back when. :D

SF is a button masher, MK is not. Thats what I've found from playing these two games.

Not sure if I can take you seriously after this post.

Yes you can mash in SFIV, but you can in MK too. How can you say SF is a masher? Mashing doesn't happen in high level play, any random 'noob' can come along and mash on a fighting game, whether it's Tekken, MK, SF or Bloody freaking Roar.

If you really think you will get anywhere by mashing on SFIV you are very delusional, just like on MK if you mashed you would get annihilated by somebody that knew how to play. Same with Tekken and <insert series here>

MK is more mash/noob friendly than SFIV is anyway.

Oh and note how I said SFIV and not SF? Because if you are implying SF on the whole is a masher (including the likes of Super Turbo and Third Strike) you are truly lacking intelligence!

I've traded in my PS3 copy of MK now so I guess this'll be it for my MK activity on this forum. :p

Edit: not just being a fanboy either, I've not played that game in a while and don't really intend to, even with AE coming out

Hey, I'm no fighting expert but I found it easy to button mash in SF4 and pull off special moves but in MK, when I button mash, I just look silly and pull nothing off.

Now, after I've been put in my place.

Is the Tekken 6 arcade stick worth £100? Its wireless which is great but does the price justify it?

EDIT: Read reviews, its garbage and the stick to get in my price range is the Mad Catz Street Fighter IV TE.

Yeah, want one too. It's finding one of the bloody things though.. :|

Wireless is bad. You do not need extra delay on inputs.

Madcatz SE stick could be a cheaper alternative for some people, but they are inferior to TE. I'd recommend a TE if you plan on putting any decent amount of time into fighting games that benefit from a stick.

I doubt it'll be back today, bringing it back up on the weekend is a recipe for disaster cause the server will get mobbed immediately. I'd say tomorrow night, this is just me speculating though. By the way some people make me laugh!! I was just on online checking to see if anybody was selling the Reptile DLC code for his old costume and fatality (really do not like his current costumes in the game) people are selling it for like £25 and stuff lol the worst I seen was £39.99 and they clearly mention in the description that no game is included *shakes head*.
