Mortgage Rate Rises

Wow.

Did not expect that cost, BRB going to start up a nursery.

How on earth do people afford this??? I need to pull my finger out if it's going to cost me £1400 a month, even if it's not full time. I'm guessing part time for 2 kids it'll probably cost the same?

This is why I feel like I don't want kids.
It financially ruins you, and your freedom.

I have a dog which I love, that may be more than enough for me.

This is what I don't understand.
How do people afford kids on average salaries. It seems impossible. I mean without being in debt or living paycheck to paycheck.

I'm on a very high salary compared to most and still don't feel like I can afford them.
On low wages it can make sense for one parent to stop work in order to cover the childcare, on average wages it's doable, and I think government support is available for some childcare costs if you earn below a certain amount.

Leaning on family if you have them can make it easier as well.

In the end you just find a way - it's easy to make changes to your spending when you have kids to support as your just wired up to provide for them, so decisions become easier in a way.

Edit: For example if we hadn't had our little one I'd have a 911 sat on the drive, rather than a 10 year old Focus!

Yeah man definitely - most of the staff are under 21 on NMW and paid for with college courses (subsidised). It is a real money spinner if you are in the right area. Also if you've seen kids at a birthday party; you've seen kids at a nursery. They sort each other out; just like rugrats.

Your not wrong - but your also very wrong! We didn't think we'd have them, but from that moment they show up you live in a home with so much love and happiness in it you'd never have it any other way.

Yeah I'm not ruling it out, just want to be in a good financial situation first to then have the option to have them. Appreciate its not guaranteed though!

Life is expensive :D

We got on the housing ladder and had established careers before ours showed up mid pandemic. It did make things easier already having got a decent start - if we'd been early twenties it would have pushed back home ownership and made it hard to put the effort in to get high enough up in work to be comfortable.

When you don't have kids it's easy to do 50-60 hour weeks, and do all the networking to get that career boost. Once you've got kids that gets really tricky.

Yeah I don't get it either.
I guess if you don't earn enough you just do the child care yourself.
I expect a lot rely on family.

But yeah, 2 people on below average salaries... Must be so hard!

For us, we don't want kids anyway. Which is lucky cause the cost is scary.
Have a dog too.. He's enough responsibility for me! :D

Can't imagine the extra stress of money worries if you're responsible for kids as well as the struggles with the money aspect.

The best option would be leave the UK, if you want kids, it still affordable in other countries. the other option if you own place with have no mortgage. Other than that you are in poverty in this country.

No, kids more chance ending up on the Liverpool path way or being mistreated at an old age.
3 or 2 kids are best, you have replacements if anything bad happens to 1 or 2 of them.
