Mosh pits

This stuff is nothing new anyway, it was around in the 70's with the sex pistols and Ramones and was done a hell of a lot better. Now it just looks like a bunch of kids 'trying' to fit in with a scene they dont know anything about.

You were 7 years old when the Pistols broke up, what do you know of the "scene"? Oh yes, that's right, you can be part of the continuation of a scene if you weren't around for its origins and people who post elitist "I was there before they were famous" claptrap are ridiculous and annoying to the extreme.

Disagree, entirely. Check the Lamb of God video, and look out for the guy in white, he's unmissable, front centre. Can you see him? Is it just me or is he following a guy, punching him on his head?

'Mosh Pits' may have been about releasing emotion and energy years ago, but now they're full of kiddo's who are trying to out-do Chuck Norris in the roundhouse kick stakes.

I did say that most of the time it isn't on purpose. You're looking at a video that is posted solely for its shock purpose. It's something more to the extreme end of someone moshing.

The following are only practiced by idiotic homosexual plebians:

Skanking
Moshing
Crowd Surfing
Stage Diving
Playing, watching or expressing an interest in football.

Although it is there for shock purposes, it doesn't change my point. A lot of people who were in the LoG wall of death would be in a mosh pit. Why would they act differently in a pit? It's not about the situation they're in, it's about the mentality they have.

Why anyone would want to do something like this is completely beyond me. I know someone who goes to such events and he was telling me how he clotheslined this kid in one the other day.

I find myself agreeing with everything CBS has posted.

Haha thats comical, sounds like soapboxing to me but hell, ive been going to metal concerts since the 70's thanks to my father who incidently was a punk fan too. Back then it was about music and expression, not fitting in to some stereotype and being all 'grrr' and 'im angry at the world raarrr'.

Mosh pits have changed a lot since the 80's, they were about the music and energy, now it looks like an excuse just to punch someone in the face, thanks but i'll have a night out at the local bar if i want senseless violence.

I suppose you have to do something to make most commercial heavy metal interesting.

Hm, not true really, and wouldn't expect that kind of comment from you! You need to listen to the right bands: start with Mastodon and try and tell me they aren't interesting. Or Death. Or Opeth. I could go on all day...

Doesnt look like any mosh pit ive been in.

Most Ive taken was a slight hit to the face, en which the bloke who did it apolagised anyway and we carried on moshing :)

heheh that 'mosh' i more like a planned, extravagant piece of Morris-Dancing...

i didnt think they needed that much floor space??

Not being a keyboard warrior here but one of the few mosh pits i encountered really got to me. Little kids swinging their arms trying to smack you, really wound me up, i left it in the end, but what's the point, really? Never been to them since. (I wasn't joining in the actual mosh, but i was very near)

That 'Moshing' is silly. The only 'moshing' I ever do is jumping around with the crowd. No one ever tries to hurt each other and if someone falls, they are picked up.

Those videos seem completely alien to me.

You moan when someone insults you, yet you're quick enough to again have a dig at people who 'mosh'.

How damn stereotypical an hypocritical do you want to get?

It's not hypocritical it's you breaking the forum rules. Now shut it or you will be sussed.

That first video link nearly killed me, how funny is that! it was like a martial arts class for drunks or something! and then you see the band still playing in the backgound while everyone is shadow boxing in a big circle! Please don't tell me people do that seriously? Far to funny if only it was work in the morning I'm needing to share that around!

mosh pits i see in the corporation (metal club in sheffield) people harldy ever get hurt...went to a chimaira gig there and it was fine, people pushing each other around but if someone got knocked over they were helped up or if someone got knocked they would be helped off to the side?

never really go in a mosh pit myself because id rather listen to the music

should be going to see lamb of god + slayer + in flames like someone else in this thread said, so that should be fun stood near the front

I think it was the contrast between the attempted "violent moshing" with the guy with the violin. Genius.

^^Quoted for truth, that is about as far from metal music as the coors! pure genius!

lol that brings a few childhood memories back.

They stopped it at the club i used to go to cos of too many 16 year old kids (i mean 18 honest) getting beaten to death by the hardcore metal type people.

lol rage against the machine and sepulrtura, what aload of crap they are :)

What has this thread become?
All the people that are moaning, do you actually like metal?
I fail to see how you're all calling them kids and stuff. Pretty keyboard warriorish. You certainly wouldn't say that to the guy stood in the middle of the LoG video...
Hardcore dancing doesn't happen at decent metal gigs. A band that were supporting slayer said if they saw any, they'd stop playing...

Also quite ironic that if you compare it to a dance gig, half the idiots are off their face on drugs. Yeah thats MUCH better than moshing :/
