When i left Rwanda a few months back, something i was so happy to leave behind were bloody mosquitos! (Partially because the buggers gave me malaria around 20 times :().

This last week i've been getting constantly bitten by them and i can't take it much longer.

Don't spose anyone can recommend a good device or way of killing or repelling them from my room (for starters), i really dont want to have to cover myself in repellent all the time, that stuff stinks!

Problem is, my room gets a bit warm when my pc is on, so i have to open the window, letting in all the ******* :(

Citronella candles work quite well. If it's really bad you can buy sprays/lotions with Deet in them but that stuff is not environmentally friendly.

You can get plugin devices too - just have a quick search on google.

Dont kill them, i read somewhere that when you kill one the others are drawn towards the smell thats released. Not sure how true it is though.

You can also cover any exposed parts in mud :P

You can get electrical devices that emit high frequency sounds but people debate whether they work or not.

Only thing i can suggest that would definitely work and let you keep the window open is a fine mossie netting over the window.

Im sitting here now with my window open, blinds open but curtains shut and i never get any mossies or moths.

if you can get a mesh to cover your window then they would be excellent! obviously just cover the part of the window opens.

When we were living in the south of France we used to have problems with mozzies until I bought this plug-in device that mimics the sound of a male mozzie although it was silent to me. Apparently it's only the females that bite in order to produce eggs, and they don't really like male mosquitos so they stay away from them until they're ready to fertilise the eggs. Was a great little thing, easily the best repellant I've ever used.

what happens when the females are looking for fertilisation? will they all go to you?!

I had a cool pattern of 7 mozzy bites in a row going up the top of my arm and down my back. Right big 'uns they were.

I'm not really that bothered as long as they don't bite me on the face or on the family jewels

Hahaha, dunno... you'd think so wouldn't you but I don't remember ever getting bitten when using this thing.

i#m not sure about the dead ones attracting others (although iirc it's certainly the case with some wasps releasing a chemical on death).

I remember reading that if you eat plenty of vitamin B it puts them off, so my marmite habit is possibly serving me well...

Oh yeah, plugin smelly devices, forgot about those. You guys not been getting mozzies lately?

I thought that both male and femail bite you, but only bites from males swell up. Only females carry malaria, thank god we're at the wrong altitude for malaria :p

Deet is evil, that stuff melts plastic - id rather not apply acid to my skin

100% deet is your friend! google it! awesome stuff, i used it in uganda and it worked a treat.

One thing though, it melts plastics so try not to get it on your hands if you're using the pc :D
