Moss.

Is it something to do with the direction it faces, possibley north and therefore never really gets a good drying out as it wouldn't get as much sun? Think you see it occuring on more northly facing surfaces anyway, something like that.

Pretend thats my window, the bit at the bottom of the window has moss growing on it.
 
Easy if you know how....


Run a copper wire along the top, copper oxide is a poison to moss and kills it. Everytime it rains the copperwire will create more copper oxide that runs it down the roof/tiles/slope. No need for chemicals, no need for professionals, no need for maintainence. :D

Difficult to remove green stains replace moss. Ideal.

Leave the moss alone.
 
Nuke from orbit, tis the only way to make sure its gone, or bleach. Stone always seems to crumble when its been painted for some reason, id get it sandblasted then treat it with silicone.
