Most arrogant profession?

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Not everything needs pills.

It was the fact they try to fob you off with the nurse.

It turned out she needed medication, so had I accepted an appointment, I would have had to rebook to see the doctor, and while it's an inconvenience for myself, it's terrible seeing a child like that because some jumped up receptionist likes to play doctor.

I refuse to tell them what's wrong now.

From my own experience I'd have to say the most arrogant profession I've found would be the Traffic Police Officer. They seem to think they're above the law themselves and communicate in the most condescending manner on earth.

My OH works in an operating theatre and agrees that the most arrogant in her line of work seem to be the anaesthetists who think they're far superior to the nurses, doctors, surgeons and professors!

I agree. A fastjet pilot is "allowed" a certain degree of arrogance I think, it takes a particular person to do that job. Same goes for F1 driver, Doctor, leading scientist, and any other proffession that is essentially a top 1%. It is typically English to frown upon arrogance, but that doesn't mean arrogance is necessarily a bad thing.

Don't confuse arrogance with confidence....it all depends on whether they can back it up or not.:)

lol you know what only about 2 or 3 anaesthetists are like that in job out of like the uncountable numbers of them, how strange! Maybe im just lucky?! I always love it when an anaesthetist gives a surgeon a bollocking:D

Have to agree with the doctor's receptionist.

"Hello, I'd like to make an appointment"
"why."
"my 3 month old has been sick all night in agony"
"Ok, I think you should see the nurse"
"I don't want to see the nurse. She can't prescribe medication"
"10:30?"
"Anything sooner?"
"9:00?"
"Thanks"

A genuine conversation.

In fairness, a lot of nurses (especially practice nurses) can prescribe certain drugs and certainly the ones that would be used to treat a sick baby. They're also tend to be quite experienced in dealing with young babies due to all of the baby clinics they run.

It's just as arrogant to turn your nose up at seeing the nurse and demand to see a doctor.

Prestige car salesmen purely for this story about my friends dad:

He is a VERY well off man, when I say well off I mean owns hotels and restaurants around Europe, is a business partner with Marco Pierre White, and so on. Anyway, looking at him half the time he dressed pretty normally and sometimes a bit scruffy so you wouldn't always think he was well off. So on this day he went out to buy a new car, at the time it was the brand new Bentley Continental GT convertible as a weekend car for him and his wife. He goes to a Bentley dealer and wanders around for a while until one of the salesmen comes over and politely asks him to leave! Ridiculous I know. Anyway, later that day he pulls up to that same show room smartly dressed in his £130,000+ car, finds the salesman who asked him to leave, tells him about how much he loves the car, thanks the salesman for his 'help' and on a final note ends with something along the lines of "it's a shame you missed out on this commission though."
:D :D :D

Honestly? :rolleyes::D:D

With the exception of the car sales guys, shop assistants etc most of these people seem arrogant because, well, they.. *are* better than us?

I find many architects are laughably arrogant. There is a breed of architect who just wants to create ridiculous monuments to themselves. I have worked with architects for years and have only dealt with a handful that are not jumped up egotists with delusions of adequacy.

+1

Then again, being a QS i would naturally agree with this quite strongly. :p

Police men/women and teachers. IMO, most teachers aren't even capable of baby sitting let alone teaching and almost every *YOUNG* policeman I know is nothing more than a thug who thinks they are above others.

The most arrogant? Professions where the central bodies man purpose is to keep the profession exclusive rather than standards.

Humble? Ph.d students who live on low wages, realising how behind they are to the leading people in their area. Practically everyone's more well off. Typically not "rahs" either, they've probably gone of to become lawyer or something.

I'm not sure it does. I work in Health and come in to contact with some very, very capable clinical guys, some the best in the country in their specialist field. They will all be confident in their ability but only some of them will be arrogant with it. As I said, anaesthetists are terrible for this - it's a running joke in every hospital I've ever worked in - as their arrogance is legendary, regardless of ability. Sure, they're an integral part of a hospital setup but so are many other areas (much more so in fact) yet those areas don't have the heavy blanket of arrogance that the 'stabbies' (lol, they hate that term) do.

I'm a better Buyer than you. This is a fact but I'm not arrogant with it. You know far, far more about cars than I will ever do but you're not arrogant about it. Being confident in your ability is not the same as being arrogant with it.

To be fair they didn't chose that title and the one's I've encountered have always been very friendly and helpful.

Also, tsk, criticising apple at the moment... the messiah only died a few days ago
lol "messiah" ? Can't tell if trolling... or delusional apple fanboy.

I'm surprised nobody here has mentioned Feng Shui consultants (who also happen to be vegans) :p
