Most iphone users don't know what android is!!?

the iPhone has a rep for being the best... the rep alone is enough to sell the world and his dog an iPhone, the Android OS needed to spend as much time with adverts as Apple did with the iPhone, maybe they would have stood a fighting chance.

Google do not need to advertise, they just overtook Apples market share for Q2 sales. With nigh on 900% increase in sales over the previous comparison period.

Android has LOTS of legs, somehow you think they lost already and need a fighting chance...errr...best you start paying more attention to what's going on! ;)

Only in the US, where you'll find the iPhone is exclusive, so if you want a good smart phone you have no choice. Also the other 3 major networks have to push andriod as their premium top $$$ handset as they have no choice if they want people to spend more.

Where as in the UK every network can offer the iPhone and most push that as its the most expensive.

I should think the iPhone will be back on top anyway for Q3 as android had a Major release in Q2 where as Apple were reducing stocks for the 4 to be released.

And they'll almost certainly fall behind in Q3 sales which is when the iphone4 was released.

Something like 75% of iphone4 sales were existing users upgrading.

I think that apple is basically (oldish) technology for simple minds. I don't mean that in a bad way, not everyone is technically minded and it makes things easy.

And for most people that is enough, they don't need to be able to do other stuff because they just don't know other things exist.

Also andorid will be known very well soon going on these figures:

Apple's strength is in bringing complicated technology to the people in a way they can easily understand, and then branding it as a fashion accessory. No one else has that brand, and that's where Android struggles.

I pulled out my Google Nexus phone on holiday last week and my friend's sister asked me "is that a cheap iPhone copy" despite the fact that it looks nothing like an iPhone.

The problem here is that the iPhone has become synonymous with 'smartphone', just like the iPod did with portable music player (although to be fair, the Walkman/Discman came before that.) I don't think the general public really has the capability or even the interest to accept more than one big format. They just want it served out on a plate to them, without having to put any effort into choice.

I'm optimistic about the future of Android though - if they can polish it up a bit and improve the general quality of the applications it will easily be better than iOS, instead of right now where it's just about as good. But they need to hit the fragmentation issues across hardware and software to truly unify the platform in the face of Apple's onslaught.

Funny, when I got my Desire out for the first time amongst friends, (4 of which owned an iPhone) they were impressed with it and what it could do. Certainly didn't think of it as a cheap knockoff.

If someone called my £300+ device a cheap knockoff they'd be politely told to **** off.

The fact features like "Multi tasking" and "Copying and Pasting" are "ground breaking" speaks volumes.

Apple are good at one thing for sure, and that's marketing.

My g/f after the copy and paste update "Look at this, I can copy and paste!"

Err..my XDA could do that 7 years ago :D

I love the way people get so worked up over a mobile phone, surely there's better things in life to worry about? Just buy what ever one you like and get on with it.

Yeah, but haven't you heard? The iPhone does it better.

It's those sort of statements that they can't back up that annoy me more than anything else. How the hell can you do Copy and Paste better!?

You can say the marketing is superb, and it is clearly working, but if I were to say to a woman my penis grants her three wishes if she rubs it she'd choose mine over any others. Even if the three wishes then had to be 'Can I rub it some more?'

Unfortunately most Apple users I've met know little about their products, they've bought them purely as fashionable items yet still argue they're the best lol

Yep, there are owners who have considered their options, such as a good proportion of those on here, but the majority in my experience just bought it for the image.

Have to agree with everyones comments. People do buy ipod and iphones because it's a fashion accessory and status symbol, everything else out there is just a iphone wannabe. Having white headphones equals elite status.

The same thing will happen again when Android and Windows touchscreen tablets become more popular. You have people who you wouldn't class as proficient in using any of kind of tech but would still buy an iphone because in their eyes it's the best since everyone has one. Also because of the hype as created by the media. Apple are so powerful that they could release anything and people will probably rush out to buy it :D
