Most iphone users don't know what android is!!?

a lot of people are ignorant about technology.
They have grown up with computers being Windows and smartphones being iPhones.
Its just a lack of experience.
My mum is LOVING her desire, setting it out how SHE wants choosing how SHE wants her phone to look/function. Shes got a setup which is far more stylish than any iPhone.

I know about android because i like tech, i have a Hero, my brother has a Galaxy S. The wife had no idea what android was but likes it and will possibly get an andriod phone when her contract is up in feb. but shes had iPods, and now has a Touch, she knows how to drive it and so will quite possibly get an iPhone.
The problem is that Apple only have to try and market one phone. So every iPhone ad is for the same phone. if Google had done the same then a lot more people would know about Android in my opinion, they trust Google and Google have the funds to push it down your throat. With them only really providing the OS however, they are spread thin and average consumer hype isnt there.
Bear in mind that you are trying to compare an OS to a Phone. History suggests that people will choose form over function and it has to be said, the iPhones have all looked great on release day.
Very simply, everyone knows about the iPhone, theres no new phone with slightly different specs every months to get confused over, its clean & its simple, so its the logical first port of call. They maybe find out about Android but will likly see it as a knockoff or just too much hassle to learn a system when they know the iPhone will work. If they didn't know about it before it can't be that good right?
Maybe Google should consider advertising Android with cameos from the current top devices.
like having a droid X or evo (the ''powerful'') the droid 2/htc vision(??) (slide out horizontal qwerty, or the ''professional''), the desire/galaxy s/dinc (the ''beautiful) and the wildfire/x10 mini (the ''social'')
so highlight the vast degree of form factors and price points what Android occupies. But keep the android branding and Google branding prominent.

95% of people do not care what OS a phone has, it either works in the shop for them or it doesn't.
How many people who had N series phones knew it ran on symbian? Quite a few people i know who have a Droid phone have done so as to them its like the iPhone but cheaper, which isnt a bad thing. I can see if google advertised Droid phones it could lead to problems if they focus on one phone for example the other manufactures may kick up a stink, so its up to HTC/Samsung etc to talk about the benefits of Droid. Personally on a fashion basis the iPhone to me is the same as burberry in the 90s, seems to be the phone choice of the Chav generation 
I agree, most people don't care. It's a similar situation with consoles and PC gaming (I own both btw) you could sit there all day trying to convince a person to buy a gaming PC over a console and they simply wouldn't be interested. Their eyes would glaze over with boredom.
Further to this, there are many vital services and items/devices in my life that I wouldn't have the slightest interest in upgrading or using another brand just because it's another brand that some people prefer. It's already in place and serving its purpose.
I tend to see iphones pretty much everywhere. the only place I've seen multiple people using HTC desires (and lots of them) was at a computer game show. No one minds you having them, so why mind people having iphones?
It's cool to hate, even though they are extremely slick bit's of kit. especially compared to smart phones at time when they where first released. Just forums like this people spend to much time going it's not customisable. Well 99% of people don't care they just one something that works out the box and is fast. That was the iphone and still is for 3gs and above.
Then it will still be at or near the top, they are very slick, fast and easy to use out the box.

Many smart phones 'just work' out of the box. But it's sure as hell nice to have the option of customisation.
They where no way near as slick or as fast, when Iphone first came out. Now everyone who got into Iphone when the rest of the market was immature, our now tied to itunes and iphone apps. why buy all you apps again, why move away from itunes which is so easy.
99% of people do not care about customisation, or that it has this or can run something else, which on tech savy people have a clue about or understand.
I agree here, Androids problem is that it can do 'too much' that people dont care about.
For me at least, that in itself isn't a problem, its a huge advantage. But for most people, they aren't fussed and that is where the iPhone is better at the moment.
Google also have a difficult job as Apple ran away with the smartphone market (to a certain degree) quite a while ago now.

Don't remember saying they do. But I do know that there's an awful lot more choice in hardware and functions on the Android platform.
No, you can just buy better for less
better is subjective and a million and one options 99% of the public wont use, isn't better.
don't really care what people have. they are both good. Just people in here talk so much crap about apple and the iphone and big up android. Which gives no benefit for the vast majority of the population.
People forget that they are tech savy and care, unlike the rest of the population.

What I don't understand is how they can claim their products are "magical" without the ASA coming down on them like a ton of bricks? How is it possibly magical?!
My friend just bought an iPad, and not him nor anybody that's looked at his Facebook status can name ONE thing that it can do that a laptop cannot. One thing. And I even offered a free iPad to the winner.
As said, it's a brand. Nothing to do with the product. Even when it doesn't work properly (ie signal loss), people still buy it.

A laptop can not be held in the same way.
Can I have an ipad now.
Ipad and tablets are 100% about there form factor and a "phone" os.
If it was a brand, why is every major manufacture releasing tablets, including many android version. It is not a brand. It is a useful tool, it is not a laptop replacement and nor can you use a laptop in teh same way as a tablet. they are different markets.
