What dmeo have all played the most, to it;s near death?

For me it was the original Worms, came on a floppy disk with 2 preset maps, and me and my mates used to play it after school 4players round my PC.

We spent about 4-6 weeks night after night playing worms DEMO.

by the time the full game was releases I bought the game and by then we were bored of it, so it was played for about a week and never went back to it lol

and demo doesn't mean SHAREWARE Doom or Quake btw

Crysis demo had an awful lot of playtime from me, about 15-20 hours' worth so far. The most played demo ever was Unreal Tournament 99.

On the consoles side of things, I spent a hideous amount of time on the Resident Evil 2 pre-release demo, as well as Metal Gear Solid. Those two clocked up 50 hours easily, despite Resident Evil 2 getting a 10 minute timer limit before the demo ended, and Metal Gear Solid only ending at the DARPA chief introduction.

Never played demo's until late. My old system 3400+ 6600GT and 1GIG 3200 wouldnt have dont most any justice. My new system however 6850C2D 8800 GTX etc runs all/most fine. Im really enjoying playing with Crysis atm and some settings/tweaks for that happy medium. I did play quake war's which was a little dry tbh. Most of my friends are playing TF2 but I dont have it. Gonna get Gear's of war and Crysis instead I think

Metal gear solid. Thats a game I not played for some time! Metal gear solid 1 and 2 were great, I never got around to playing 3 though >.< what was it like any idea's ?

The UT3 demo has clocked up a LOT of hours for me. I don't tend to keep demos for very long though - I just play them until I decide if I want the real game or not and then they normally get uninstalled.

The original GTA game, think it was limited to 3minutes or something like that and youd have to start again
Those 3 minutes were spent recklessly trying to get the wanted level to max!
Probably more fun than the whole game

COD2 for me. I was poor and couldn't afford the full game :p

I don't want to play the crysis demo oterwise i'll end up using the sandbox editor and end up ruining the alien surprises etc in the final release.

probably Trackmania Sunrise, which I pre-ordered after the demo. Unfortunately they put so much replayability (including the track editor) in the demo that barely anyone played the full game.

Do shareware versions count? I lost many hours over several months (year?) to Moraff's Dungeon, a tile based RPG.

As far as proper demos goes, Carmegeddon Splat Pack has gotta be right up there. Spent quite a while playing that, although it was only one level, the game is so open-ended that every race was different. Carmageddon 2 (after applying the timelimit hack) and GTA also received a lot of playtime.

For multiplayer, I played a fair bit of UT and Q3A. Haven't really played many demos for longer than a couple of days this decade though.
