Looking at my ancestory it got me thinking.

I know Glasgow has been reffered to as the most violent place in Western Europe but looking at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coatbridge

"There is no worse place out of hell than that neighbourhood. At night the groups of blast furnaces on all sides might be imagined to be blazing volcanoes at most of which smelting is continued on Sundays and weekdays, day and night - without intermission'"

I have heard stories first hand of CBFC thowing bricks at players, doorstep slashings, 7 houses in a row being burgled in one street in one night! This was a few years ago mind! I feel sorry for my family that live threre! :(

That quote was the late 19th cent, which means it should have been the late 1800's during the industrial revolution, doesnt really stand in this day and age.

the bongo club as this is what my friend found out was a common landmark whilst on tour in iraq a local asked him where he was from and when he said middlesbrough the iraqi said 'ah yes I know middlesbrough the bongo club!'

Guildford has to be the place I've seen most violence firsthand. Went to visit a friend there for a weekend, on the Friday night we were sitting in a pub and some guy jumped over the bar and started beating the barman.
Then on Saturday night we were in a club dancing away when the guy next to us collapsed, we pick him up and take him off the dance floor and hand him off to some bouncers, then noticed our shirts were covered in blood from where he'd been stabbed. Crazy place.

Brixton - The town of drug dealers, drive bys, Yakuza gangs, Yardies, ethnics, cop killer and race war....how dangerous do you want it to get?

Bigg Market, Newcastle.

Seriously, though. I was persuaded to go there once by an ex girlfriend "Don't worry - they're all just stories...nothing bad ever really happens there..."

Within five minutes of arriving, someone ran up the middle of the street, screaming, clobbered a guy over the head with some nunchuku, splitting his skull then ran around the corner where Pizza Hut is and down towards Central...Still screaming.

I think i see what you mean. Im starting to hate London too - there are sooooooooo much better places to live. As much as i like brixton too, i dont feel comfortable going through certain places at nite driving. But i have heard people say once you become "use" to it, aint nothing to worry about. The night life is wonderful, i belive one can compare it to new york...but the gangs and guns spoils the fun for me.

Brixton - bad. Glasgow - bad. Nottingham - bad. Manchester - (specifically Longsight, Gorton, etc) worse.

I was working nights in West Gorton about 3 years ago. Only me, a girl who worked in our support team and the security team on the other side of the campus.

A young lad was killed. Stabbed to death. About 20 feet from us. His body was found leant against the chainlink fence round the back of the temporary structure that housed our remote support :/

Romford is the most dangerous place I've been to.

One of my mates is obsessed with the place, so we went there after he persuaded us, within arriving I heard 3 gun shots and a armoured police van shot past us and skidded to a halt and 10 foot men jumped out with riot shields and clubs and sprinted up the road.

We left shortly afterwards
