I don't get the idea of wet belts, is it just for an increase in efficiency, but **** the end user?
Fuel efficiency, noise and I think the original expectation was the belts would last longer if anything

Good to see they did a thorough life test of the belts when designing them then. I'm sure car companies would use paper mache for doors if they could to improve emissions.Fuel efficiency, noise and I think the original expectation was the belts would last longer if anything![]()
What do you think valve stem seals. And engine seals are made of?Engineers must have known running rubber through oil at high speed was a stupid idea. But it claws some mpg/emissions figures back so they do it.

I won't argue with you there. There is a lot of this going on especially around those dodgy looking used car dealers you see tucked away on industrial sites.
I guess wet belts also have a massive surface area in contact with oil, are are under tension, seals typically are under compression so might be a large factor. What do you think valve stem seals. And engine seals are made of?

We used to do work for quite a few small car dealers, but they can get very aggressive when we add advisories/failures.
Now we only deal with one, because they do everything that's advised or failed no questions + their cars are prepared properly.
and/or then going back to the seller to get those things fixed at their expense.I have a colleague whose allegedly done that with a Ford KA. Bought a better car and then swaps good parts into the bad one.-People with two of the same make/model car wanting to transplant things like injectors, brake discs, tyres, etc. etc. which he has clocked as people buying a used car the same as their existing car which is in better condition than their own, swapping the better stuff over and then returning the carand/or then going back to the seller to get those things fixed at their expense.
Anything dodgy around brakes or safety related checks should result in severe punishment! He'll have plenty of time to do his 15 days rehabilitation what with no job anymore..
It really isn't worth the few quid one can get for doing dodgy MOT's, and believe me, plenty of people ask (and as happened the other day, and that guy was told by me to **** off and get off the premises).
99% of the time, it's always the same kind of people.
Just to add, if a tester completes a test in less than 30 minutes too often, then it's red flagged to the DVSA, and then they start to check ANPR records as to where the car actually was at the time of test, then they come down on you like a tonne of bricks.

They do seem better designed though.Theyre different materials subject to completely different environments and forces.
