MOT Fail?

I don't think it was meant entirely seriously ;)

And btw, yeah i think the gash in the sidewall will fail the MOT, but don't know how people can say that it'll fail on the tread as well. As stated above, there needs to be 1.6mm of tread across 75% of the middle of the tyre.

I said what I said as I've read that such things are true!

Anyway, my statement still stands, that a car has a full MOT does not mean its in great condition.

Guys, have a look at the MOT Manual. Relevant part quoted below.

Reason for rejection:

a. a tyre has a cut the length of which is at least 25 mm or 10% of section width, whichever is greater, deep enough to reach the ply or cords

b. a tyre has a lump, bulge or tear caused by separation or partial failure of its structure. This includes any lifting of the tread rubber
any of its ply or cord exposed

If that damage has not exposed the tyres structure it should not fail, simple as that.

Quoted for Truth.

If a car can barely crawl into the workshop, pass an emissions test (if it needs one), and have its brakes tested without a trip down the road (permanent 4x4s usually), then it'll pass an MOT.

An MOT only means a vehicle meets the minimum requirements to drive on a British road. If you want safe, you need a service.
