MOT Fail

Has anyone here ever had there car fail because the washers didnt work because they were frozen over?

That's a bit harsh lol. I know the tester needs to see them working.. But surely he would have thought "They are just frozen over" Ran the engine for a bit to let it all warm up then test them?

The tester sees an endless precession of blown bulbs, misaligned headlights and empty washer bottles, force of habit to fail it.

His re-test was partial (only looking at the washers) and free.

I had the Volvo tested in the middle of winter at 7am. He said "I couldn't get anything out of the washers but the pump is going so it must be just frozen"

Didn't even get mentioned as an advisory. Pass.

How daft. My last MOT mentioned the fact that I had a magic tree hanging from my rear view mirror on the advisory, along with the fact I had a sub in the boot obscuring access to beneath the boot carpet  I don't think I'm going back there

Strictly speaking, its a hazard if you cant clear your windscreen. Use a better ratio of screenwash to water ;)
Or just put screenwash in. It's all I ever use

I dunno. He may have just let it slide.. But with a massive FAIL staring him in the face.. He might of just thought sod it. lol

It's down to the individual tester and his (or her) judgement.

I failed my last MOT on all the brake lines and some welding that needed doing, as well as a page of advisorys. The damage had been there the last MOT but wasn't mentioned. Got it repaired elsewhere for cheaper + MOT and the guy looked at the advisorys and just laughed at some them for being mentioned.

Such is motoring.

Your car cannot clear its screen and therefore is considered hazardous to drive = mot failure.

harsh but correct to the letter of the test.

Sort them out so they work as they should with a correct mixture and its a free retest.
