MOT Fail

Your car cannot clear its screen and therefore is considered hazardous to drive = mot failure.

harsh but correct to the letter of the test.

Sort them out so they work as they should with a correct mixture and its a free retest.

Seeing a lot of this sort of post, a sharp tester would just warm the jets up and try again, just like any good tester will simply adjust the headlight alignment, rather than fail it, or ask the owner to remove the furry dice, rather than fail it. Mechanics usually aren't jobsworths.

But how long is he supposed to spend trying to get them working?
A tester only has a limited amount of time to get the test done.
He can't afford to spend time adjusting this, adjusting that, retrying the washer jets over and over until they happen to work.

Arn't you supposed to drive a car like its rented just before an MOT to ensure it dosen't fail on the emmissions? Which in turn would have unfrozen the washer jets

If your car isn't broken it will pass the emissions test.

Granted, some cars are susceptible to stuff like carbon build up on the valves if they are absolutely grannied all the time, but this is L0rdMike we're talking about.

I agree.

You should NEVER stand on your car whilst peeing.

WTF were you thinking malc?

Well I am 6ft 5 so I wouldn't have to. :D

It was a comment to indicate how ridiculous I thought the tester was being, A cup of tea slung over them would have done the same job. Not as much fun though. :p

Because a mechanic is likely to want to pour away his tea? :p

Am I the only one who misread this? :D

Our local testers in Burton are usually pretty good with this kind of stuff - on my last MOT they were quite happy to adjust the headlight alignment and pass it.

i had a mot failure for corroded brake lines. i thought this was a huge thing actually till i had a look under the car. turned out to be a tiny little bit of surface corrosion. a quick rub down and some grease and they were as good as new. i guess garages have to make money somewhere....

I was in a Hi-Q today for my MOT. While waiting for my failure sheet (:o) I noticed a whiteboard on the wall.

It listed their targets, for example, balancing, brakes, tyres etc.

At the bottom it had "MOT retests" - so they actually have a TARGET for finding faults on customer's cars to cause it to fail
