I have put it in the slots the manual tells me to and I only have these two sticks.

So what board and memory is it? When you say not detecting, does the motherboard give the beeping signal for no memory or can you POST and get into BIOS/OS?

EDIT. Motherboard link didn't work. The motherboard is a Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z Z68

Please provide a full list of your components.

Try one stick of RAM at a time in each of the 4 RAM slots starting with the slot farthest from the CPU.

What CPU cooler do you have?

Did you fit the motherboard standoffs before installing the motherboard?

Did you fit the 24 pin and 8 pin power connectors to the motherboard?

Have you fitted 2 PCI-E power cables to the graphics card.

I have stock cooler that comes with it.

I have the motherboard sitting on the box it came in as I had to take it out again because it wouldn't boot and was trying to figure it out.

Yes I have 24 pin and 8 pin and no the graphics card isin't on it.

That board can't use the IGP so I would connect the graphics card in and test to see if that works. Might be complaining that it has no display device.

Have you checked that there's no damage to any of the pins in the CPU socket?

There was no anti-static bag with the motherboard and does that mean I need to take the heatsink and all off. Also will that not mess with the thermal paste.

It does and it will.

Feel free to wait for any other suggestions before taking the cooler off.

I'll have one last go.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS by pressing the little button on the I/O panel with the power supply disconnected from the mains?

Is the CPU cooler fan conneted to the motherboard and spinning when you try and start the system?

On the 2 digit LCD display what number does it get up to when you start the system?

Im not sure what you mean CMOS.

The cpu fan is connected and when I start it up it spins.

The 2 digit lcd goes to 53 and no higher.

It stores the BIOS settings.

Press the little button where all the USB ports etc. are, with the power disconnected, and it will reset everything back to stock settings.

As for the LCD code I'll see what I can find when I get home if no has come up with anything before then.
