A minority of people get motion sickness in games which can range from Headaches to Dizzy spells, vertigo and even throwing up. Some people can't even play 5mins of certain games before they have to lay down for hours just to recover. It can be contributed to Glasses, the way the brain works, an inner ear inbalance problem or if you suffer from migraines!. Myself I suffer from an inner ear inbalance, where by I cannot lay on my back and look straight up without feeling sick and migraines.

There are a number of game issues which could cause this

1. FOV

FOV and Motion Sickness

Slightly OT but hopefully this video (in two) parts will help people better understand why some users suffer from motion sickness while playing games with relatively narrow FOVs...

It's a bit long at a total of 16mins but it's the best explanation I've seen. Essentially, many FPS games have been designed with the "play it on your TV from the sofa" notion in mind where the narrow FOV will not affect even the most motion sickness prone users. Play the same game at desk where the monitor is much closer and that's where the narrow FOV will begin to cause problems for some people.

If a game supports FOV adjustment I usually set mine to 90 or 100 in order to avoid any ill effects, since my 2407WFP is only about 2.5 feet away on my desk.

2. The swaying of a game screen, for some of us there is nothing worse than when you are attacking an enemy your player swings his arm causing the entire game screen to sway with it.

3. Headbob, games like stalker are bad for this as you walk forward the game screen bobs up and down constantly until you stop walking. Most of the time this can be disabled.

4. Run Zoom, Games like Borderlands have this horrible situation that when you run your entire game screen zooms forward. Some games are worse than others and is very difficult do disable.

5. Too dark, I can feel sick in a game if it's too dark and with all the motion of walking, tight fov and concentrating on a dark area can cause not just motion sickness but very bad headaches.

Motion sickness games for those that suffer from it

HALFLIFE
STALKER
BORDERLANDS
DEAD ISLAND
RAGE

I could never complete half life 1 because it made me feel sick, Also couldnt play Serious Sam HD because that made me feel sick after about 5 mins and had to stop playing :(

The only time I feel motion sickness is when I've been playing slower paced games such as an MMO for a while, then start playing FPS games after only sporadic playing of the quicker genre.

It's almost like my brain has to catch up with the pace again lol.

Played halflife, stalker and bordelands but don't remember any of them giving me motion sickness.

On other hand halflife 2 managed that within 30min and that's why I only played it 46min according to steam.

Think it is a minority issue. About headaches, well that can be a number of things not just motion sickness etc as player could be tired, lack of energy, too much tv/gaming allready etc.

Hahahahahahah at games making people ill! Seriously heard it all now!

Go outside move around abit I'm sure you'll get used to it!

Don't suffer from anything cause I'm hardcore!

Yes yes, you're so hardcore. I don't get sea sick but I know a lot of people that do, anything that moves that you have no control over and is controlling you in some way can make atleast a few people Ill.

All of them do it for me. Half Life, Stalker and Borderlands I've managed to edit the FOV so it's playable.

I can play a game for a while before realising it's giving me motion sickness, but then I feel physically terrible and literally have to lay down until it passes. Really ruins a game for me.

It's weird as well since I don't get motion sickness travelling or being on a boat etc, took me years to realise what the feeling actually was.

I get this badly, cannot even touch fps games. Never had a problem in my teens and loved fps game but now sadly can no longer play them unless I take travel pills.

I'm pretty much the same, used to play loads of fps in my younger years with no problems whatsoever, I remember playing Goldeneye for hours on end including 4 player splitscreen! Nowadays though I stuggle to play any fast paced stuff at all, L4D is probably the one that effects me the worst, 20 minutes on that and I'm feeling really ropey :( Having said that some slower paced shooters such as Crysis and Bioshock I'm ok with, go figure?

Wolfenstien on the SNES, that made me sweat like a Whore in Church and made me feel physically sick. :(

Not suffered it since that game though.
