For the past couple of months ive been finding it hard to get myself motivated to go running, i need to do it to get ready for the army. Ive got to pass my 1.5 mile in a certain time which i can still do, but i aint been running for nearly 2 weeks. I only go running once or twice every other week, but i think it helps that i do running in the gym 3 times a week.
My problems for motivation are:
1. been doing the same route for about 5-6 months
2. raining i dont go out running
3. knowone to go with.
4. when im on earlie morning shift the last thing i want to do is go running, but funny enough ill still go gym:p

Basically as i type ive thought of solutions:
1. go down gym tomorrow see if theres a running club
2. change my route

Anything else that think could motivate me please let me know.

Get someone to chase you with an axe.

A running club sounds like a good idea - gives you others to run against for a challenge, and makes the whole thing a bit more sociable. You'd also be running against a schedule arranged by someone else, so it's kinda pre-arranged for you (if that makes sense).

Yeah it does make sense im seriously gonna ask about a running club.
I do quite a bit of cardio work ive just worked out what i do:
sunday- run 1.5 miles as fast as possible
monday-10m 30s on treadmill and bike class in gym for 45 mins
wednesday- 10m 30s on treadmill, 10m on xtrainer
thursday- runn 1.5 miles (rarely go thursdays now)
saturday-10m 30s on treadmill and bike class in gym for 45 mins

Going outside running on the 1.5 mile runs is the only cardio work i keep skipping but all the rest i dont miss without fail, so its not like im letting myself go. But ive been running for about 5-6 months to get ready to pass the army test and i can only just beat it.
The army run ive got to do is as follows:
1.5 mile in 10m 30s

My worst time was 10m 21 and my best time is 9m57 so my average is about 10m14s. I want to get better time in that really, i would like to get 9m 18s but that sounds extremely hard for me.

It sounds to me like you need to be doing longer periods of cardio. I'd be going for 25 minutes + to start seeing faster improvements in your 1.5 mile speed.

When I was thinking about joining the RM's I managed to do a practice PJFT in under 10 minutes after about 4 weeks of training properly for the first time in my life.

I think 1.5 miles in under 10mins 30secs is easily achievable by pretty much anyone with a minimal amount of training. Just stick it on 15km/h and stick it out, it hurt me like hell as I was not really ready for it however it was possible. As I said I reckon pretty much anyone that isn't overweight can do it, not comfortably mind :p

I find the 2.4km run quite hard on the treadmill(you need to do one as a pre-test to join navy in about 13mins), though I dont find the 2.1km in just over 11mins too hard on the road.. =/

You definately just need someone to go with, and try doing longer runs, make sure you have an mp3 player if you're alone ey :)

Ill be starting my regime within 2 weeks and im planning on doing 6km-8km runs every other day or maybes every 3.

just curious are you looking to join the parachute regiment when you get in? because thats the only one you have to run 1.5 in under 10 min every other job recruitment selection is over 12 min.

welbeck is different thats a college for the under 18s i believe, so you get easier times. The times for the following:
infantry/Guard regiments 10m 30s
paratroopers 9m 18s

vary your routes, if possible get off the roads and onto some trails. I find running on pavements pretty dull especially if your just doing the same route but why do that, you can run anywhere.

You have all the motivation you need, you want to get into army, as for running in the rain, you're not going to get a choice when your in the army so you may as well get out in it now.

I'm no fan of cardio work in the gym i don't find its anywhere near the workout you get from a proper run / bike so my advice would be to bin it off and get out there maybe just do 1 tredmill session a week if that is what you will be doing your test on.

Thicko me (always best way to start a sentence) went out for a walk out around the fields 5 minutes away from my door. The route takes me through about 6-7 fields, the last one basically a very steep incline. Then it takes me into a small village then back out onto the main road. All the way back to my neighbourhood and to my house. This i would say is about 5 miles minimum, it could be about 6-7 miles i would say. This is a brilliant run so im gonna go do it sunday, and i believe this will get my motivation back into running and actually do it a couple times a week.

How daft of me to only just think about running there now. Ive been running along the canel for six months, bored to tears of it, when i got great fields to go out running around:rolleyes::p ......we need a thicko smilie:p

How about those iPod things Nike have out?:p

Once you have someone to run against you will run faster, You should try enter a Compitition every now and then to push your self:)

Well ive just come back from my run it took me 41 minutes, im so glad i did it. Its got my motivation back into running, and i think ill do it twice a week, every week. I actually think the run is about 5-6 miles and it was pretty hard and i loved it and i think i wont bother with the 1.5 mile run and just keep doing this run.

Lets say the run is my minimum guessmation (yes its a word) and the run is 5 miles, is 41 minutes good for the first run. To keep it fun im gonna keep trying to get better times, how would you do it give yourself deadlines so like every 5 runs you got to beat the time by 2-4 minutes?

Well, it's near enough 8 minute miles so I would say pretty good.

Can you map it out on google maps to get the real length?

Not sure how, first time ive looked at google map. Ive pretty much worked out where i run looking at the map. But how do you measure the length, it would have been good if i could drawed a line exactly where i run and then it works out how far i go.

Another way to try to motivate yourself could be registering to do a 10km or half-marathon for some time not too far in the future. If you knew that you had to do an event in 2-3 months time it gives you extra desire to get out.
