Okay got a 8-9 minute WRC Rally video and at first attempt the video comes out @ 150mb now I'm thinking I could get away with making upto 200mb-250mb video but do you think thats too much?

YES

There is NO NEED for the videos to be even a tenth of that size, even for a decent resolution.

"Illegal" HD TV rips of 40 minute shows from the states come in at 350Mb and the quality is reputed to be excellent.

DivX or XviD it up and get it down to 20Mb tops and people will still be happy. Or happier.

Considering the most i get out of this **** poor excuse for an 8Mb connection is about 40KB/s the smaller the better! :p

Make a proper quality one then run that through windows movie maker for a very compat .wmv version and post both. The .wmv will suffice most of the time, its the high action parts that suffer mostly. Something about 768kbps works for me mostly and that'd make it about 10 meg I think

lol that is HD allright

I'm going to have to build my conroe rig just to play that properly. Lots of people should appreciate the lower quality version imo

isn't 1440x1080 a touch overkill considering most people will be running 1280 horizontal res?

I know for a fact my PC wouldn't even play that file, so I wouldn't even bother trying to download it.

Shrink it then?

Its a video of you lot on a trip to Wales, do we really need it in HD? 1/3rd of that res would be more than adequete.

i think whatever gets the finished product out fastest is best! :p

Just worked out thats 39 million pixels a second, my poor pc :D What res did your camera record it at, surely its less or is it analogue so debatable

That res :p 1440*1080 - I shall do 2 versions 1080p and 720p :)

Fairly sure his cam records at full 1080 HD res

haha tried to play the 150mb version of my media pc - XP2500 and played okay but few jerks so will lower the res and increase the quailty :)

No need for it to be that size, it's just gross over indulgence. A film on DVD is what, 1-4 GB and they are often in excess of 2 hours!

For an 8 minute video I'd say anywhere between 20mb (Youtube/Google video stuff) and 80mb (High quality downloads to keep) would be appropriate.

Of course this will be bigger its better quailty than DVD.
