Motorcycle Test Changes, when?

I remember reading somewhere about the changes to the motorcycle test (A/A2 licence?).

When do these come into effect and what significant changes are there? I'm planning to take the test around easter.

News on the grapevine is that it will be delayed again.
Too few multi-purpose centres open meaning sometimes long travelling distances for learners. This puts added danger on them wit this extra travelling.
I don't think it will happen until september time.
I have seen the new layout though and it looks a piece of **** to do the u-turn and everything, so i wouldn't worry in that respect.

as it stands, the last day you can do the old test is 24th April

so those who are waiting, get it booked asap. The earlier you book the better as if you fail the first time, it will give you plenty of time to rebook as you have to wait 10 working days for a retest!

I've heard rumours that they are restricting people to 250CC for a year after passing the DAS. Is this true? When I was 21 and did the test I could go straight to a full size bike after the DAS. My mate wants to do the bike DAS but heard you have to ride a 250CC for a year afterwards now. Any info on this?

There has been no announcement regarding new restrictions, but lots of rumours.

I wouldn't be surprised if the DAS scheme was changed, but a 250cc rule is unlikely as power output from 250s varies enormously.

woop woop!

Keep on sticking the date back please. I turn 21.. on the 21st of march, so Direct Access is what I'm hoping to do :D

Best place in the Shropshire/Staffordshire area to take it?

Yep! I'm 17 on the 20th of March, planning to do my restricted test at easter time! :D

"Standard motorcycle licence (A): if your test vehicle is between 120 and 125 cc and capable of more than 100 km/h you will be given a standard (A) licence. You will then be restricted to motorcycles of up to 25 kW for two years. After two years you may ride any size machine."

What is the difference between doing this and a DAS? I turn 19 in June so to get a unrestricted licence at 21 or a restricted before 19 doesn't really change anything for me?

Nope.

The only difference is that over 21s do their DAS (exactly the same as the A2 content-wise) on a 500cc motorbike rather than a 125cc (and so do not get lumbered with the power restriction).

Test is identical, only difference is DAS is done on a big bike(46.6bhp+). If you are under 21 you cannot do the DAS, but can ride anything 2 years after passing regardless of age.

Anyone have any updated info on whether the new test is going to be delayed?

I know the MAG is pushing for it to be held back, but I haven't seen anything official. I do my theory on 4th April, and can't book the test till after then, so the chances of getting in before the end of Aril are slim to none.
