Probably a silly question, but I'll ask anyway :D

I noticed today that my rear tyre is down to the TWI on the middle, so bearing in mind you need 3/4 of the tyre with legal tread, I guess it's time I changed?
I guess I can't gumble, the previous owner had them fitted, and I've done about 5500 miles on them.

Also, I have Bridgetone BT-014s at the moment, but have heard that the BT-016s are better, anyone reccomend them or another decent set?

Cheers,
Scort.

im a convert to michelin pilot power 2ct, super grippy dual compound without being as crazy soft as supercorsa's ... everyone has their favourite though and some makes of tyres are just better on a certain bike, so might be worth checking bike specific forums for advice.

hate changing brands though means changing both tyres even if front ok :(

Pirelli Diablo Corsa 3's I run, dual compount aswell, hard middle section and soft side walls for corner grip, also very good in the wet. Bloody marvellous tyres, used mine all the way to the rim on the road and no grip problems, Trust them with my life :p

As above depends on what brand you like, but its gotta be 2CT or the Corsa 3's.

yeah I just been reading about them on pirelli site, triple compound

I used to run Avon Azarro on ZX12 just because I was sick of it munching rears.. had tread like a tractor, and not that grippy, especially in wet.. but it suited the way the bike rode perfect. (busa guys run these as well)

The fronts weren't changed by the previous owner, so I was planning to get these changed too.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Again, thanks for a suggestion. Not really into brands yet, this is my first bike, so I really don't have anything to go by.

Depends on what bike you have and what sort of riding you do :)

I ride an 06 Ninja ZX-6R (636cc), and although I do tend to see triple figures (private roads of course), I mainly focus on cornering, and am in the process of attempting to perfect body position/lean etc; so would like plenty of grip there. I also mainly ride in dry weather.

Thats one hell of a first bike :) ...awesome ride!. Might be worth hunting down a big 6R forum, I'm guessing there are some.

It sure is, and I'm so glad I went for it over the ~05 CBR600RR - they just don't seem to offer the same comfort as the Ninja.

I have now posted on the "Kawasaki Rider" forum I'm part of.

to be perfectly honest, any half decent sports tyre will do.

i usedto scrape pegs with BT010s on which is going back a few years now... rubber has improved a lot since then!

i've got a set of Avons sat upstairs to go on the mille as it chews tyres and these are supposed to be good enough for the busa so hopefully will last longer than the 500 miles i've had out of my supercorsa lol.

one thing i do find though is that pirellis are a nice stable tyre. :)

Currently on Pilot Powers, dont think much of them.
Give good grip in wet & dry. Seem to wear quickly though.

Used to have Pilot Road 2`s on my old S4 though, will be going back to these when the current tyres have worn down.
Great grip in the dry and especially in the wet, seem to take an age to wear down.

Thanks for the information everyone, I'll be ringing a local tyre fitter tomorrow for some prices, gonna be an expensive month what with my 7500 mile service and extra insurance for the exhaust change.

Ah well :)

The latest copy of Bike has tested the latest sports tyres on a Fireblade so it might be worth having a look, the conclusion however;

"At the end of the test, we had one clear winner: the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso."

Well, I rang a local fitter today, and have the prices:

£208.00 - Bridgestone BT-014
£240.60 - Bridgestone BT-016
£239.13 - Michelin Pilot Power 2CT
£220.18 - Pirelli Diablo Corsa 3
* Alignment is an extra £5.

Set is font 120/70/ZR17 and rear 180/55/ZR17

Tempted with the Corsa's tbh, had quite a few people say they're realyl good and Ride did a review on tyres a few months back, and these were rated one of the best - maybe even the best iirc.

I have a 65 on the front at the moment, people say changing this to 70 helps handling too.
