Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

Just did a speedtest and i get

Ping - 651ms
Dl - 0.52Mbps
Up - 0.01Mbps

This is with the H+ sign at the top.

Their "maybe" a fault the coverage checker said but i dunno because i tried other postcodes and it said the same thing unless its a larger network issue.

If you are with three they throttle bandwidth between 3pm till 12am, its a joke really can barely stream or do anything at peak times... Why advertise unlimited data if you can use it.

Three generally are pretty terrible now. I did testing 2 years ago, when my Orange contract was up and Three were far and away the best for data. Now, I struggle to watch a YouTube video at any time of the day. When you tweet them, they just say it's a congested area.

Giffgaff on O2 is awful for me. Most of the time the upload is higher than the download. This morning I got 0.57 down and 1.46 up. Diabolical. I'm thinking of trying Three, I have a simcard I can put some credit on and try it for a month.

I just moved from Giffgaff to Three. Signal is now way better around where I live and work. I like Giffgaff but the O2 network seems much worse than Three's.

he's with Ovivo and tbh that doesn't surprise me.

Ovivo is that pay £10-£20 one off fee and you get a set amount of free mins/data/text for life is it not?

It's basically only for children imo or people with tablets who want occasional data without paying a sub fee every month for it.

Move to a proper network.

I personally have never had any issues with GiffGaff apart from when in bad signal areas but then i also had issues with O2 so it's nothing to do with GG personally.

For the price you pay imo 3 and GG are the best bang for your buck. Ovivo isn't a good enough package to be used as a main phone imo.

I don't have this at all

My data works & streams perfectly fine 99.9% of the time. Only in low coverage areas do I get problems.

There is now a google play edition of this. I don't really see the point in it but it can only come as good news; the more devices they sell, the more likely we see more upgrades on it. If not officially, then at least unofficially.

Agreed, I have no problem watching Netflix and the like at any time, no problem with service here

I understand they throttle users who abuse the service and maybe that is what is being experienced.

Know little about these phones but wheres the cheapest place to get one from? My missus Galaxy S2 keeps killing batteries so this would do to replace it for now until she decides what she wants when she's got the money, might treat her to one of these :)

I'm with Three and have to say best network for me up in the Aberdeen area. Even better when in Moray, can pull 10meg+ (you can go faster on an s4 but that's a modem limit?)
I can confirm my handset has a radio as well, only works when you plug headphones in but it's pretty good.

I did drop my phone, without a cover and onto granite. It survived pretty well just a few scuffs on the back plate and the screen is scratch free.

The thing I love about this phone though, is the battery life, at a day and half of decent usage on 34% now.

I'm with three and pay the £15 a month pay as you go bundle, from 3pm till 12am they throttle the bandwidth and it's terrible for streaming etc.. Always buffering etc... After 12am i get about 12meg pretty ridiculous really.

Amazing phone though.

I have to disagree with you there, I have yet to see any evidence of throttling. I'm on the same bundle as you. I can stream youtube vids any time of day without issue.
The speed tests I was talking about above were performed usually around 4pm (just before dinner at my parents lol).

I'm definitely being throttled.. There are numerous other people complaining about it too if you Google it.. Here is a screenshot I just took from speed test.. Dire speeds .. I will take another one after 12am and post it.. It shoots up to 12meg.

But given Three's main problem is congestion... do you think it's congested at 4pm or midnight?

Maybe it's worth a separate thread, rather than take this one OT?

Just got one from Tesco. Trying to get it unlocked...

This seller is currently away until 20 Jan, 2014, and isn't processing orders at this time. You can add this item to your Watch List to purchase later.

Agh!

Must say it's a lovely phone for £99.

*Edit*

Doing an update check show no KitKat, still on 4.3. Any ideas?

*Edit*

Nevermind, got a popup just now with the update information.
