Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

Got it back on after finding the right trick to get it on. Left it in for a hour then did the hold power for 2 mins trick then the white led came on and then started to charge. It then turned itself on and off twice then went on and stayed on so far.

So lesson learned. Dont let it drain completely otherwise you will have problems.

Contrary to what mobile makers think not everyone has a wall charger before buying a phone.

If i need one does anyone know which one i need, i heard somit about needing a stronger than normal charger perhaps but i have no idea about chargers tbh.

Anything up to 1.5 amps (and more than 0.5). I use the charger that came with my Asus Transformer which is rated at 1.2 amps and that works perfectly. Not much more than an hour to go from sub 10% to fully charged.

I've used a surge protector with 2 usb sockets on it (1amp), my hp touchpad adapter and my nexus 7 (2012) adapter, both 2 amp iirc, without any issues

I have 3 or so mains chargers..1 from a Kodak camera and a couple from other phones, all are rated at 1 amp or more and all work quite happily with the Moto G.
I also have a 10 amp rav power charger thingy with 2 outlets rated at 1 and 2 amps. Either will charge the Moto G.

I used to leave my HTC Desire HD plugged into my USB overnight and that would charge but my HTC One and the Moto G don't get any charge from USB at all.

Can I ask a numpty question... what is the quick way to reduce the ring volume or switch the phone to vibrate only ?

On my Nokia, it was easy - hit the power button to wake up the screen, then the volume button to increase or decrease it, and tap the top right of the screen to toggle ring and vibrate. No need to key in a PIN and unlock the screen.

With the Moto G, I have not found any other way apart from the cumbersome process of keying in your PIN and unlocking the screen, then going into setting, sounds and setting it there. Surely it can be done without unlocking the screen, same as the Windows phone ?

Got one of these for the wife just before Xmas and it's been nothing short of ace!

Great battery life, nice and fast and has a decent sized screen without being too large! The kitkat update went on a week or two ago and all seems fine so far with possibly slightly improved battery performance.

It's certainly very comparable to my own S3 in terms of profile and usability. The only real weakness I've found is the camera quality but since that's not one of it's intended uses it's no real concern.

Very happy. :)

Motorola always had great mid range Android phones, the problem was no software support and poor cameras. One problem seems to be fixed, better cameras would be nice too :)

Or you can just hold the volume button down and it will go to vibrate.

Or long press power then hit the vibrate button.

A brilliant phone. But I don't understand the comments about the mediocre camera, to me is it superb.

I can only assume you've never had a really good camera phone? It certainly isn't superb...

The difference is more noticeable as it gets darker.

The camera is ok, but in low light it is at best, average. My GN2 camera beat the pants off it. But as a cool budget friendly smartphone, nothing else touches it.

I have not had a high-end phone before, no. Although my wife's Xperia S was that when we bought it immediately it came out. I'm not sure how those two compare actually.

The Moto G camera is superb compared to what I've had before. In outright terms is does a very good job indeed, but granted if you spend double or triple on a phone you will get something better. For the majority of people it is probably all they need.
