that sounds absolutely awful, even by 4cyl standards.

to the outside world it sounds broken, to anyone who has a clue about engines will know its just mapped in inefficiency, just crap

if you liked that, this will send you to crap-sound-heaven

The 182 sounds shocking and is obviously running like a bag of spanners, don't understand why you think the Abarth popping on upshifts is a bad thing? It's perfectly normal for well mapped turbo engines to bang when shifting.

no, the clio is mapped to be like that and specifically only over 4000rpm

i accept that some cars will pop and bang but normally once theyve had enormous turbo conversions aiming for huge power and run the additional richness for protection, but no, no oem-bar-new-software car has any need to do that other than to make the driver and his mates feel theyre in a rally car when in reality the tiny engine still only has a hairdrier to force air in.

that fiat sounds doubly bad when it gets back on the throttle and sounds like a wet fart that actually follows through

Hmm ok thought it was just overfuelling like crazy but it does sound pretty bad and is really over the top, a car having a quick pop or bang on the upshift is much more desirable in my eyes.

Arguing about a car noise being good or not is like arguing about the colour however, it's entirely subjective and so long as the owner likes it then that's all that really matters.

Yeah, sounds awful they sound ok standard...

Also i struggle to think about who the target audience for the X5 video is, listen to the music and then X5 wollows round a corner...?

Edit, 4 Pots do not sound good 99.9999999% of the time!

another common reason for a car to do it would be changing up whilst on/at the limiter. the ignition cut can send fuel down the exhaust but that fiat was no where near the limiter.

trying to decide if its as bad as having a fake dump valve noise lol

My friend had a 500 Abarth that popped very loudly during shifting. No idea to what spec or tuning it was, whether it's just a characteristic of the car itself or done on purpose but I could hear him from miles away. That's long gone now, didn't have it long. I bet it gets old quickly!

People keep asking me to "map in some pops and bangs"
Each time I die a little inside..

But they do get told to Foxtrot Oscar :D

No standard car has an ignition cut rev limiter though does it?

Yes.
Cutting the fuel on a turbocharged car is a short trip to melted piston territory.

Actual strategy on a lot of the newer fly by wire cars now is just roll off the throttle.
If you somehow manage to "go through" that strategy then it starts to bring in both fuel and ign cut as well.

It might be amusing to just hand them a CD with some pops and bangs recorded on it and tell them to play that in their car - it'll be no less fake and it'll be better for their car. Then charge them £50 for the CD - hey, it's cheaper too! :)

I want a 500 Abarth so bad now, the idea of a small 500 sounding like this is just hilarious to me :D

I got my Mothers to pop on a standard exhaust through all the tunnels in Bilbao. Sounds great!

Really uncomfortable seating position though.

Yeah, mine does the odd pop on the occasional upshift. It seems to do it more when I've filled up the V-Power (or equivalent). Its great fun to drive though and surprisingly quick for a little car.
