Motors YouTube Videos

holy crap! that was a little close! I just hope the van driver bothered to look in his mirrors after to see just how close to getting wasted he was

That truck driver was going way too fast.

It's a British road (road markings showing the A14) and the lorry was travelling at a constant speed before braking, so it would be possible to download the video, examine the framerate, count the number of whites lines passing and the number of frames and thus calculate the speed of the lorry from the timing and the distance between the lines.

I can't be bothered to do that, but I'd bet that the lorry was under the speed limit for an HGV on that road.

Impressive brakes on those things. Slowing that much mass down that quickly takes some doing.

What am amazing room full of amazing classic cars.

Too fast for what exactly? The likelyhood of some fool pulling out suddenly? Let's everyone just drive slow everywhere. Besides, on wide angle videos like that speed always looks faster than it actually is.

Speed limit for a HGV on an Dual Carriageway is 50mph. According the in-camera speed display the HGV was doing 53mph when he had to slow down for the van.
Perhaps the HGV was going too fast considering it accelerated up the slip road from 50mph to 53mph and it was approaching a roundabout.

As somebody who drives that stretch regularly and in a truck, yes, he was imo going too fast because morons (usually in vans) do what the van driver did often as they realise they want to turn right instead of left.

As a professional, he should know this well enough, especially if he does that stretch of the A14 with any regularity.

The brakes on a modern rig are astounding - especially when its not pulling a full heavy load!!

I know that roundabout, Spittals, worst roundabout known to man and I have to navigate it twice daily, the lorry driver was going far too quickly

Or you could look at the speed indicator on the video?;)

He hits 54mph, albeit it briefly, but counter in a gps 'lag' he must have done at least 54 for a stretch of time, he was going too fast, approaching a roundabout at 50+ in a HGV? he'd have to be slamming on anyway!

I don't doubt that he's within the speed limit.

Why take that reaction? Oh yes, let's all go super slow, yes, yes... because that's exactly what I was saying. Internet at it's finest.

The van pulled out without looking, yes, but, to me, it looks like he didn't slow down at all until the van pulled up. Perhaps he had an empty trailer and was making the most of it, I don't know, but I would have thought he wouldn't have been entering the slip road at quite that speed. I would have thought any reasonable person would have the same view? Perhaps not.
