I don't understand the argument that the race result should've been annulled rather than Alonso simply disqualified. Obviously they're trying that angle because finishing 12th rather than 13th would have been completely irrelevant in terms of the championship.

Is there any precedence for throwing out an entire race result?

I can’t quote from my phone but it sounds like he’s just in the running for damages - judge said there’s no way they can be expected to overturn the results of the championship. So, as we knew Massa will just come out of this as a bitter, sad man with no WDCs to his name…

When Hamilton finally retires, I wonder if he'll file similar damages claims for "you know when"?

He'll already be watching this case closely as it would have potentially stripped him of one of his WDC (which we now know won't happen) but if Massa is successful in his damages claim, Hamilton should equally be able to sue for damages too.

Lewis has nothing to prove, and will be commercially relevant for the rest of is life if he wants it. Massa not as much, he's achieving nothing now and only won 11 races over his long career. Lewis would be may be more interested in the records being re-written, not the financial side IMO. I think he's mature enough to move on from all that.

If anything he should be suing Ferrari for this season damaging his records, or himself for not having the foresight to see how bad the move would be or the arrogance to say "I change him them".

Could probably do a class action against Ferrari for general driver abuse.

Even if there's no possibility of him being declared 2008 champion, his damages claim is based entirely on the fact that he wasn't.

If the events in Singapore specifically cost Massa the points that would have made the difference in the final standings, he might have a case. They didn't because he only finished 13th, so his entire argument is that the race should have been completely voided and Hamilton subsequently have six fewer points. That just seems extreme when you'd expect the more likely outcome to have been Alonso's disqualification, which would actually have given Hamilton two more points.

Adrian Newey is now the Aston Martin Team Principal. This seems like quite a strange one to me. I feel like this is a bad move.

I didn't see that coming, at least it locks Horner out!! Next year is the first Newey designed car isn't it?
I'm unsure how much actual designing he does these days. He's probably head of the design department and runs his eyes over most of what they're cooking up, but in terms of actually getting his set square, ruler and pencil out, I'm not so sure he does much of that. I think he concentrates on particular parts like the rear suspension at Red Bull.
