BTCC have finally joined the 21st century and uploaded the first 3 races of the season from this past weekend in their entirety! Finally saves me having to wade through 6+ hours of ITV2 recordings on a Sunday evening.

Hopefully this continues on for the rest of the season.

Recording the whole lot and then just skipping the ad breaks and waffle is the best way though - I enjoy the Mini Challenge and like watching the F4 races to see possible future F1 stars.

Removal of hybrid this season in BTCC seems to have done a world of good though

Surely, Cadillac could do better? It doesn't imply anyone has much faith in them, including themselves, if they're bringing in Perez.

Such as?
Bottas or KMag are the only other options I can think of, and not sure they're necessarily any better.

There's absolutely zero doubt in my mind that Bottas better than Perez, but I was thinking more of attracting drivers that have seats at more mediocre teams. Gasly or Tsunoda, maybe? Or one of the younger talents? It's really telling that not a single big name has even been mentioned in association with them.

Could it be a case of Perez getting a new drive and suddenly coming alive again? Maybe red bull ground him down?
I'm as dismissive as the harshest of critics, when it comes to Perez. When it comes to Cadillac however, I couldn't give a hoot who drives for them. :D
They should do it, just so we can laugh at Perez again.

True, true. Although I'd rather see more new blood that seats clogged up with ageing drivers who've already shown us their limits.

They should do it, just so we can laugh at Perez again.

I don't expect him to be particularly laugh worthy; at a lower midfield team he can go back to being the guy who occasionally manages decent results by making the alternative strategy work with superior tyre management skills. I guess at least he's not as overrated as Hülk.

It has to be said that nobody has really succeeded in the newer no:2 car at Red Bull except Perez.

I went to brands in 2023 with a mate who had a spare ticket. The BTCC was the worst spectacle out of all of them. The mini's were great and the F4's and Porsches were lapping way faster than the touring cars.

Perez will bring in money, Cadillac have a market in Mexico and although less important to F1 these days he has won a couple races and at some point was competent behind the wheel. No brainer really as a business. I expect a cheap rookie to fill the second seat as per usual.

Cadillac is very popular in China, so I really would not be surprised if they were desperately trying to get Zhou. Not sure if the current tariff war will put a stop to things like that though.

He also has experience with 2 different manufacturer hybrid power units (so will be able to offer opinion on how the Ferrari unit stacks up) and knows how several established teams operate and will be able to feed that back to a new operation

Pieces coming together, the Mexican GP has just extended.

Zhou is the Ferrari reserve driver and Cadillac are running Ferrari engines until their own is up and running. So Zhou to Cadillac would not surprise me.

Apologies, double post. But this is a fantastic article that delves into the software and AI used to monitor/police a race from race control. (Trigger warning for some, it mentions Abu Dhabi 21 :p)

The end of the article links this video which summerises it all:

I find it all fasinating. Espcially how long the software has been developed for and how intricate it is.
