Risky question of the day, but does anyone have any experience or recommendations on a slickish 26" tyre?

Specifically, wondering if anyone has used either of :

Schwalbe Marathon Plus
or
Continental Travel Contact

Both the 1.75" width versions.

The roads to be used on are pretty poor condition, lot of gravel, lot of mud/debris, just when I want to go on-road the current MTB tyres (Nobby Nic) aren't particularly great.

I've used the city jet, nothing bad to say.

Edit: missed the gravel and mud bit. Maybe not the best.

Marathon plus and Conti travel are road/off tyre, for pure on road I'd go for city jet

Replaced my aging XC bike last week. Still have some of the setup to dial in a bit, but already feels nimble in comparison to my last Scott hardtail.

Thanks, yes carbon.

Not weighed it, but suspect it's just under 11kg with the pedals. I'm not particularly a weight freak, but might keep more of an eye on it this time. I'm debating tubeless, and a few other slight tweaks to offset the extra weight of a dropper. Not very XC, I know, but I like to be dynamic on the bike and the saddle does get in the way of that.

Picked up some bits for the boys Chinese carbon 29er yesterday. His tyres and tubes have arrived, hopefully this lot soon too and we can start putting it all together!

Looking for a bit of advice on cockpit setup following my crash.

Thinking back over previous spills and a few other factors, I think my weight is often too far forward.

My 2016 Canyon Nerve 29er (medium) comes with 740mm handlebars and an 80mm stem. I the width feels ok but I'm contemplating a shorter stem.

Interestingly, the 2017 Nerve (now Neuron) comes with a 70mm stem as standard.

I don't think I need to go as short as 50mm, it's not a proper DH bike after all, but I'm not sure 70mm will make enough of a difference so I was thinking of going 60mm.

Any tips or advice?

short stem (try 50mm) and maybe raise the handlebars with some spacers

Just got back from my first ever ride at Cannock Chase...my god it was wet and very sandy! Couldn't tell how deep any of the ruts/ holes in the trails were as they were all full of water, and some of them were definitely deeper than you would expect.

Only ran Follow the Dog in the end though as my mate I went with was blowing out his back end after riding up the first long uphill (that will teach him for not having any breakfast before going out riding!), and my fitness leaves a lot to be desired as well lol.

Not really sure what to make of Cannock though as I'm not sure it's really what I'm looking for trail wise, well the 1st half of Follow the Dog certainly isn't. The back end of it was much more fun and enjoyable as it felt a bit more technical and flowing (from around Time for a Brew? I think).
