Mountain Biking

I've got the 2014 version, but with a few tweaks from standard. Somehow I ended up with a free upgrade to Guide brakes rather than the problematic Avid Elixers, added a dropper post, better rubber all around and removed the front derailleur to try 1x10 to see if I miss out on the range much. I'd say BPW is the only place I've ever came close to the bike's limits in the UK, and that was more down to just feeling really worn out over bumpy terrain rather than really struggling like I was in places in Vallnord!

The 5010 hugely catches my eye, but like you say - hugely expensive. Plus I'd potentially miss having that extra travel if I was to do a big bike park day again! :p

Evidently the answer is multiple bikes :D

Hightower LT ;)

Thoughts on B'Twin bikes? There is a B'Twin Rockrider 520 for sale locally and im looking to get my first mountain bike not going to be used for anything to extreme mainly just flat trails.

Also seen an orbea mx50 for a tad more.

Cheers, both look in excellent condition both have only been used a handful of times(apparently).

Ive just come across Tredz.co.uk who are offering 0% APR Finance i like the idea of spreading the cost. So i may go new instead now. Any suggestions? Happy to pay up to £400 with this been my first bike.

A lot of places do 0% finance on bikes.

Speaking from experience though, I wouldn't buy a complete bike from Tredz. My mate bought the Mondraker Summum Pro from them last month and has had plenty of problems with it before he'd even ridden it. There are chips in the paint all the way down to the metal, the brakes were needing bled as soon as it came out the box, and the screw to secure the front axle hadn't been put in properly and was a proper bitch to get out.

The Reign's a flying machine! :)

He's alive! Not been eaten by a shark yet?

Still no chance of returning to two wheels yet??

Yes the new Reign looks awesome, decent spec, with coil shock for a decent price too. It'd be on my list if I was considering a new bike anytime soon.

Haha, not eaten yet - but there was a big one out at my local spot just the other day| Off on a boat trip to the Mentawai islands soon!
I'm definitely thinking at this time, that I shouldn't have sold it. Easy to say now I guess now that I wish I had a bike on me, but I needed money at the time. I got a lot of higher priority things to buy, but will look into getting another bike when the wife gets a frigging job!

Thanks to those that responded to my questions last week about the Boardman. Here it is:

Taking it out this weekend for a good slog. For a shade over £600 I am very pleased.

Son it taking the bell :D

What's happened to this thread?

In order news Manon Carpenter has retired from WC racing.

Sad news, but it seems like a good decision. No doubt we'll see her in EWS anyway.

Always regret it, it's why I still own two bikes :)

That GT looks a bit, cheap, as though it should really be around the £300 price point, and it only has an 80mm fork - the others have 100mm forks.

At this price point, you want to aim for 'little' things which make a difference, like whether you like or hate the feel of the grips or saddle, so you don't buy something and then have to spend £50-60 getting it sorted for you. Is there anywhere nearby you can test the Specialized or the other 2? Might be a good way just to see how they fit and if you like the contact points etc.

Shame. My gut feeling would be between the Specialized and the Cube, and although I've been a 'Spesh' fan over the years, the Cube just somehow "looks" better. I'd try finding some reviews of them 2, see if there's anything much different although there's very little in it from what I can see.

Maybe go for the colour you like best? :D

Ive been going back and forth between the cube and spesh it really might come down to a flip of a coin i like the look of both of them but i cant seem to find any reviews on them.

Out of them two I'd go with the Spesh its better specced. The Suntour XCM is slightly better than the xct which is a frankly hideous fork. Personally i'd sack the finance unless you up the budget to make it worth while. But if budget is definitely £400
my money would be spent on this
